Yes, we made progress. All you liberals in Iowa City love that word. It fits your socialist views. Progress is awesome. We are progressing. We went from 4-8 to 8-4.
Please. Its KFs 15th season. And we are happy he can dig out of a crappy season which he shouldnt have had. Whooopeee!!

Yep we sure get what we pay for. But I guess I shouldnt get my hopes up. Its Iowa after all. You should expect 8 wins. And anything better is super duper progress.
Then expect a couple bad seasons, because its Iowa and you cant recruit Iowa. Who cares if we have a great fan base (55,000+ fans during the horrible 70s), and we have very good facilities, and we can put kids in the pros. Its Iowa. You cant expect 4* players to come here. WAIT! Didnt Iowa just get commitments from a couple 4* players? What? How did that happen? Its Iowa. You cant expect that.
You can only hope to have 3 good seasons followed by 3 bad seasons. And you can NEVER expect to win at tOSU.

Shoot, I bleed black and gold. Born and raised in Coralville. Graduated from Iowa in 1990. But get a grip. When is enough, enough? KF 3.0? Really? How about a coach that manage the clock and make half time adjustments and go for the jugular and not play not to lose? Oh wait. Its Iowa. We shouldnt expect those things. Unless its the wrestling program. A fast paced offense? Thats for basketball. This is FOOTBALL. You run it. You run it until you cant. Then you throw short passes and hope your slow WRS can run for a 1st. $th and 2 at the opponents 35? Thats punting territory.
Yeah, yeah. KF got a little out of his comfort zone this season. But it only took 15 years to do it. And a an OC that has won a NC to poke him to do it.
What can I expect? Oh yeah. 8 wins. But very few at tOSU. We can never win there. PROGRESS! Thats what we want. But not when we win 11 games. Nope thats the pinnacle. No progress after that. We need to let the other teams have a chance to win. Thats only fair. Then, we get 3.0. And when this fades, and we let the other teams have their wins. Its time for KF 4.0!!!!!!!

Some people like Yo-Yos. Others don't. Yo-Yos go up and down....kinda like Kirk Ferentz's record over most 4 year spans. Myself? I don't much care for Yo-Yos. I want my floor to be 8 wins. My FLOOR to be 8 wins. 4 OOC cupcakes and split the conference games. That's not hard to do, if you are a good coach that can recruit. Heck, even if you only win 3 of the 4 OOC games and split the BIG slate, you could still win a Bowl game and end up with 8 wins. And I am of the opinion that the longer you are at a job, the easier it should be. You should have long established recruiting contacts with high school programs. You should be a known quantity among recruits as far as your style of play and the quality of coaching. It should be easier to recruit....not harder.

Would you rather he not turn it around, even with the truth he has to be held responsible for the downturns and deserves criticism for it, doesn't he also get some credit for the improvemnt? I'll choose to support the team and coach that is likely here till at least '17, cause otherwise its kind if a miserable, futile, and angst ridden existence. He has plenty of faults, as did even the greatest coaches in Hawkeye history.
I don't think that line of thought makes the folks that feel the pros out way the cons gullible or dumb, much like I don't think the folks that want excellence gullible or dumb(we all want those things). Accepting that 9+ wins every year isn't likely, ya know, cause...well...there us zero evidence in 100+ years that its probable, Not that shouldn't be the goal and effort, because it should. I'm just not gonna be blind to historical data and real challenges and let my desire for wins be confused with unmet dreampt up expectations.
Now...THAT is a great story.
Here's to a strong bowl performance and even better year in '15....What ALL Hawkeye fans want.

So on a scale of 1 - 10, how ****** were you when we finished at 8 - 4 ? Also looking at our past say 30 years what do you think our annual record should be?

Thats a tough question. Im very happy for the players that they won 8 games. Im not so happy that our coach of 15 years had to make progress to 8 wins. Im very happy we are going to a decent Bowl game and playing a solid program. Early in the season, I was very unhappy. Now Im a little more satisfied. Not sure where I would put the season. Maybe a 7 that we had to rebuild again. I want to reload. Not rebuild.
I dont want to base present and future teams on the past. With that thinking, everyone would have been satisfied if Hayden had won 6 games a year, because the previous couple decades were flat out brutal. I want to average 10 wins a season. I want our down years to be 8 wins and not 4. I want our great seasons to be 12 or 13 wins.
I want us to be in the B1G championship game regularly. And not at 7-5, but at 10-2. Or 12-0.

8 wins is certainly possible, every season and should be the expectation for a highly paid coach in his 8th, 10th, 12th or 14th season. There is no excuse good enough, IMO, for this not to happen.
I give KF a lot of credit for how he represents the University. His ethics and character. I also give him credit when he has good seasons, like this one. But he has not met the bar on a consistent basis, when you consider his tenure and pay scale. I'm not satisfied with the roller coaster ride he has us on every few years. That doesn't mean I don't root for the team to win because I do. It just means I think we can do better.
Well, I think we all want that. It would be well above Iowa's historical median though. I'm not sure how Iowa would turn around a 100 year pattern especially with the shifting of fort all talent south.
