Let the portal madness begin

Big news out here in the Pac-NW. UW's stud sophomore QB announces he has signed a big contract to stay with the Huskies on Friday, but then yesterday enters the portal. UW is going after him for breach of contract. Should be interesting, although it seems like little good will come of it for UW (at least for next year's team).

Kiffin had originally recruited him years ago to Ole Miss, before Fisch flipped him. So he'll likely end up being LSU's QB. Somehow Kiffin is always behind a lot of these stories.

Yeah this whole thing is quite the spider web. The timing of it is funny because when Williams made his announcement LSU literally had Leavitt sitting next to Kiffin at a basketball game visiting. So Leavitt obviously didn't commit and is on to visit TN. So sometime just prior to that Kiffin musta been straight up tampering with Williams if indeed that's what's going on here.

UW is supposedly gonna fight him for breach of contract. We'll see if that goes anywhere I'm not sure how it can. If they hadn't paid him anything yet it is what it is they can't force him to stay. They aren't considered employees the salaries aren't collectively bargained there's no union. Till all of that is a thing the contracts aren't worth any more then what the coaches contracts are. If there's a buyout agreed to or $ owed back then sure but nobody can make a kid stay anywhere they don't want.

I bet the agent Williams has is a total sleezeball. It'd be wild to be privy to any of these conversations that goes on with how these portal deals go amongst these top players.

Is there even such a thing as tampering these days?

He's in NY still I saw him out there just a week or so ago. He's playing a lot much like Geno Stone in Cinci. Good enough to play on bad teams. Belton is probably a good comp for Entringer size/style wise. I'm just not sure Entringer is as good as Belton I just don't think he is

Belton was a ballhawk, and that is something we have been missing in our safeties over the last few years. Belton had 5 INTs his senior year...both of our safeties combined have only totaled 2 over the last 2 years.

I don't specifically remember...did Belton play mostly S or Cash as a senior? Our guys playing Cash (Lutmer this year, Castro prior) have been good at creating turnovers.

edit: I looked back over the last 15 years...it is VERY unusual for us to get so few INTs from our safety position. There was not another year where the # was under 2, but we have only gotten a single INT from our safeties in each of the last 2 years. Not sure if that is reflective of defensive backfield personnel, or perhaps lack of disruption up front? Or maybe it is because our best playmaker gets put at Cash, instead of SS or FS?

I know he is likely looking for a bigger payday than Iowa can offer, and I know Iowa's MO is not to go after guys like this, but Koi Perich would make a LOT of sense for both parties. Us, because he is exactly the type of player we have been missing at S for a few years. And from his perspective, he would be close to home, he would still get a big payday (though, not the biggest), and he would be part of a dominant defense and training under a guy who has put tons of DBs into the NFL.

Oh I couldn't agree more.... And yet he won't be a Hawk he's gonna go land a bag. That's the reason he's leaving. Not to go win more or improve his resume for the pros. He can make big bucks now so that's what he's doing.

His #2 was OSU and his DC at MN when he was a freshman went to Miami. I am guessing it is either one of those two. Don't think Iowa will be able to afford what he asks unless those spots get filled or he decides to go back to MN which I highly doubt

That's how I look at him too. He's not physically imposing or gonna win the underwear olympics at the combine. I'd say an NFL future seems murky at best so I get why Entringer is looking to cash in now. Comparing him to guys like Amani Hooker, Geno Stone and Merriweather I'd say he's 4th on that list and Merriweather has bounced around from the scout team to 53 man roster most of his career.

He could possibly make more in 1 yr then he does his entire NFL career by shopping himself to either Michigan school. He'd need a monster last season to get some NFL love draft wise and I'm just not seeing it happen or it woulda already.

win the underwear olympics ?

Similar to former Georgia commit, Damond Wilson II. Left for Mizzou and Georgia is suing him to re-coop come of the NIL money. It will be interesting if any of these cases gain traction.

My big question is what's going to happen to the quarter billion dollar project that is CyTown. That whole thing was predicated on the idea that ISU football was headed for Mt Everest and the popularity with clown fans was sky-high. Now with the program in shambles and TJO likely on the way out leaving the b-ball program in the dumpster, who's going to be there to buy the $500,000 suites, condo housing right in that area, and all the people supposedly coming there to spend money on food/drink/apparel, etc? It's half done or whatever, it's not like you can just cancel it now or postpone it.

God I'm glad I didn't grow up a clown. Lolsies.

Not picking on you, because 98% of Iowa State fans don’t know this, but Iowa State or the state are paying nothing for the construction of cytown. It’s managed 100% by the builder. They’ll continue unless the builder wants to back out with a massive sunk cost. If they back out, all the athletic department and university paid for was the parking lot which was 100% necessary anyway.

Maybe he'll slide right in at LG to replace Stephens?...
I doubt that he is ready at this level. He just completed his RS Sophomore year. We have Leighton Jones and Kade Pieper pretty well set for next year's guard positions. Could be wrong but I think they got this kid for development for the future. And depth, of course.

Another factor in the low # of Safety INTs could be that offensive coaches are finally figuring out what long-time Iowa fans have known forever: take what Iowa's defense gives you, which is short routes underneath our zone, and you can move the ball with little risk. It was amazing to watch how year after year offensive coaches would get impatient and try to force long throws into Iowa's 2-deep Safety look, which is not something you need to do to move the ball vs Iowa's defense.

That's crazy. That QB wasn't a one-man team at UW, but he was the straw that stirred the drink for them offensively, for sure. A threat anytime he took off with the ball. Big loss at this point in the portal process for a really strong team with high hopes for next season.

Pieper is awesome I assume he's either going to stay at RG or maybe move to center. Jones I don't think has played a ton and that LG spot to me is up in the air. This new kid played all of last yr and played well. I assume Iowa got him to compete for it. He's certainly big enough.

As much as we bag on the Clowns, their fans support that team and did so even before WonderBoy arrived on campus. Basically since McCarney awoken the program, the fans have been in the stands and traveled to bowl games and supported. The Clown fans always pined for what Iowa fans had, and now they have a pale, sad version of our program. Clown fans also like to drink. I mean, they are still from Iowa. Cytown is a great concept and not depending upon any one player, coach, or person. I would be shocked if it is not completed and a success, at least initially.

It all depends on depth and health. Iowa and most teams that emphasize the running game need 7-8 guys that are ready to play. Maybe he won't start but if he can develop on become a 1B option at 1 or a couple positions that is what we need. We had some key guys miss some time and while the outcome was maybe not what we wanted, the wheels just didn't come completely off and take us out of the game.

How many people new we were down three OL during the USC game? Not many knew because the drop off was not really noticeable and although we lost the game we were still in a position to win even with all those guys down. That says a lot in my opinion.
