Offensive ideas from Pat Harty

I would rather listen to my grandmother and her pet iguana, Jub-Jub, give an in-depth and detailed analysis of Kurt Ferrets' conservative offensive scheme than read what PHarty has to say about ANYTHING. Guy is a gigantic tool and the intellectual equivalent of reading a Family Circle cartoon.

I don't disagree that Garmon might be better suited to a wingback position, but when he put out Bullock's name I promptly closed the tab and proceeded to drink grain alcohol to try and forget all the stupid.

Create a wing-back position? really?

Let's see...a wing back lines up just outside the tight end or tackle and the flanker lines up a bit wider. BFD.

So.....use the running back in the passing game? Iowa did that. Pat.

(I'll keep reading now)

get the ball to quicker receivers in space. Use multiple sets. Iowa tried that too. Pat may not have paid attention. Iowa put lots of guys out....ran lots of empty backfield sets. Nothing new here.

Cue the long standing Pat Harty joke - Whats more yellow Pat's teeth or the stains in his underwear?

Wow, you don't see a 14 year old thread dusted off and repurposed very often. Well done?

On the topic at hand, Iowa certainly benefitted from this relationship as it finally had a QB playmaker for the first time in a half decade. Was he everything he was sold as? Maybe not. Certainly not at first. But, the back half of the season MG was a very good QB. I would certainly take another season if he had any years left.

I think Mark was exposed a bit if he has aspirations of playing at the next level. He is not an accurate passer. He has NFL size and an okay arm. He is obviously a good runner, but would not survive at the next level taking the hits he did at Iowa. He would be a real project at the next level, whether he stays at QB or switches to a TE/Hback type player.

The thing we will never know is how healthy his shoulder is/was. It would have been really interesting to see how he would have performed if he was able to go through spring ball and throw all summer. The other question is how healthy is he? By the combine or pro-day he could show some progress if he was still healing,
To go from not throwing at all to having to perform in high caliber Division 1 games in a short time is not easy. Mark and Cade are prime examples why I think Iowa has been a little more cautious in the portal so far. I think Mark was an overall better player and leader than Cade was and Iowa took a gamble on both.

I think his shoulder was OK all season although I can't say that with any certainty. To me, his shortcomings in the first half of the year were more due to the space above his shoulders. I just don't think he had enough time and experience to get Tim Lester's complex offense early on. As the season progressed, he got better and better. Also, I'm sure the knee injury didn't really help anything either.

Is there a limit to the number of new threads that can be created?
@99topdawg is the master of finding these gems and I'm here for it.

I agree. He's definitely not an every down QB. But in reality, he never had much of a shot to be a #2 QB on someone's roster.

So I think he benefited from this season by showing he's a leader who is tough as hell, can take a pounding at the Big Ten/SEC level, and was also a weapon as a runner at that level and perhaps can even be effective in the NFL. He can cut to the chase of re-inventing himself as a gadget player for the NFL.

Maybe a team is intrigued enough to stash him on a practice squad this year. Emergency QB who can try his hand as a red zone option. Direct snap, slot receiver, H-back, move tight end...I think a few teams will be intrigued.

Taysom Hill

That is who MG could possibly be in the NFL.

I am calling my shot now. MG is a 6th round pick to the Denver Broncos. Bet money, MG is on Sean Payton’s radar as his Bronco version of Taysom Hill.
