Let the portal madness begin

Take it easy. He spent 4 years at Iowa - played his ass off this season. He was third on the team in tackles. He was voted a team captain all 13 times this season. Can't blame the kid for telling the media right after a game that he planned to be back. Maybe he wasn't su

this just in JMU O lineman with 3 years' eligebility left commits to Iowa. 6 4inch 300lbs.

This kid will be a good pickup for us. Big school lineman from Texas, not a recruit we would typically see

Besides changing his mind and lying what else did Entringer do that stood out this season? Below are his stats. He had some experience but he was not a game changer. If he didn't want to be a Hawk so be it. Those stats don't jump off the screen. Another Jestin Jacobs?

That's how I look at him too. He's not physically imposing or gonna win the underwear olympics at the combine. I'd say an NFL future seems murky at best so I get why Entringer is looking to cash in now. Comparing him to guys like Amani Hooker, Geno Stone and Merriweather I'd say he's 4th on that list and Merriweather has bounced around from the scout team to 53 man roster most of his career.

He could possibly make more in 1 yr then he does his entire NFL career by shopping himself to either Michigan school. He'd need a monster last season to get some NFL love draft wise and I'm just not seeing it happen or it woulda already.

Are we essentially replacing Entringer with FCS Villanova DB Hawkins?
Is that an upgrade?
Maybe... He could be replacing XN too now we have both safety spots to fill. Hawkins is taller at 6'3 but it sounds like he's under 200 lbs or so making him pretty skinny so I doubt he's as physical as either of em. No idea how good he is coming from that lower level.

Iowa seems to be doing all their shopping at the bargain bin from the FCS lower level schools. I think getting burned by the McNamarras and Kaleb Browns has them pretty jilted on going after the power 4 more expensive kids. Tyler Barnes has casted quite the wide net so it seems

But can they play at a B10 level right away?
The portal is not where to go for developmental prospects. It should be where we go for urgent needs (as in ready to play on day 1).
We might also avoid questionably injured players (ie McNamara) who take much of the season to heal.

I wish Nwankpa would've entered the portal before last year.
I do too but hell I thought tackling was his strength. He could hit hard anyway. It was his covering ability that was lacking. He's slow. WRs got behind him all the time and he'd take terrible angles. Nice kid and all but he didn't live up to all the stars. I'd thought prior to this last yr he really shoulda put on 10-15 lbs and just been a LB. He's not going to get a sniff at the NFL as a safety. He's just too slow on tape. I'll be fascinated to know what his 40 time ends up being.

The one that surprised me was Dane Belton...I figured him for a solid NFL career, but he only lasted a few years. He was a much more impactful player than Entringer. All that said, I would rather have Entringer back than not, and I hope that Iowa can come up with an offer that makes him happy and bring him back into the fold.

Nwankpa was unaware of the fact that he had appendages on his body called arms.

He was the human missile style DB who thought all he needed to do was run into a guy as hard as possible and he'd go down. Makes flashy plays when it works, but there were more times than not where he'd hit someone, go flying off into the ground, and the ball carrier recovers and gets 7-10 more yards. If they had publicized stats for missed tackles he easily led the team. Lutmer makes up for his lack of athleticism by bringing guys to the ground when he makes contact. Also if you look, Nwankpa had a grand total of zero pass break-ups this year. Lutmer had 7 as a RS sophomore.

Lutmer came into the program as a kid no one ever even heard of and is turning into an NFLer. Nwankpa got the Beatles treatment during his recruitment because he was supposed to be the next Desmond King, and he won't even get a sniff in the league. It's why I think recruiting rankings are bullshit.

That's the million dollar question for all of the players that are bouncing around that haven't played much frankly but yes especially these ones.

I think ideally yes it'd be nice if Iowa used the portal to plug obvious holes. But if you can land a younger guy that you may think you can develop as well that's not a bad thing. This Olineman we just got I think has 3 yrs to go is a perfect example of it. He might slide right in for Stephens at LG and be a 3 yr starter too. We'll see.

I think it was Locked On I was listening to the other day and there was some speculation from them that Godfrey could make the move to the Cash or Safety spot as well. I think if you look at the recent trend with a lot of the secondary guys they are looking at versatility where even week to week things could change in the line-up depending on who they are playing.

I didn't know that but it doesn't surprise me in the least. He couldn't cover anyone. He could blast a guy out of bounds at the sideline but yeah wrapping up wasn't what he was all about doing. I thought he did a decent job in run support of being where he was supposed to be gap wise but yeah dude missed his share of tackles.

He's in NY still I saw him out there just a week or so ago. He's playing a lot much like Geno Stone in Cinci. Good enough to play on bad teams. Belton is probably a good comp for Entringer size/style wise. I'm just not sure Entringer is as good as Belton I just don't think he is

Thanks for the update...I looked him up the other day, and I thought I saw he hadn't played for a few years. I must not have looked closely enough.
