Let the portal madness begin

Well shit... Entringer is in the portal now... After he'd told reporters leading up to the bowl game that he was coming back. So there's the curveball of the portal season for us so far. And here I was thinking Brian Allen was gonna be the impactful guy leave. We aren't that lucky.

I can't help but guess that Woods and Fitz got to him and he'll go closer to home to play for them. He's from Ann Arbor so hell maybe Michigan is on the table I have no idea what their 2 deeps at safety look like. But my guess is for him to have changed his mind now is due to Woods going to MSU and finding out how much of a bag they could throw at him. They have $ up there.

Next man up. Just opened up his money for someone else.

Very disappointed to hear this. It has to be all about the $$.

Besides changing his mind and lying what else did Entringer do that stood out this season? Below are his stats. He had some experience but he was not a game changer. If he didn't want to be a Hawk so be it. Those stats don't jump off the screen. Another Jestin Jacobs?

Take it easy. He spent 4 years at Iowa - played his ass off this season. He was third on the team in tackles. He was voted a team captain all 13 times this season. Can't blame the kid for telling the media right after a game that he planned to be back. Maybe he wasn't sure.

Money, Money, Money and Money.

That's what it's all about now fellas. 10-15% of commits out of high school will stay their entire college careers in one place.

Or we could ask why doesn't Iowa pay the man his market value?
Hard to say how these things go. Maybe he went to Iowa and said can you pay X and once he was told no that's when he decided to go... That's where the poaching comes into play. I'm betting others were telling him what he could get be it specifically from MSU/Michigan and it's just a lot more. Hard to say you're guess is as good as mine. All I know is he'd said prior to the bowl game he was coming back and now he's not. Somethings changed in 5 days

There will be more. Way of the world now.

This could be simply business. He may well come to an agreement on compensation. Now he has the comensurate leverage.

and now I speculate irresponsibly by saying his agent could be a jackass. or Iowa is too cheap or Iowa does not have the money to pay him.. If Iowa lacks the funds we need to get comfortable with 8-9 wins per year or less.

You think so? How many more days is the portal open for them to hop in? I suppose a QB or 2 could easy enough. Fitzs kid is one I assumed would. And if Brown doesn't think he wants to stick around and compete with Hecklinski I could see him maybe leaving. Beyond that I'm not sure

Yeah, I get uncomfortable bagging on a kid who just spent 4 years working his ass off (and we all cheered for). Nobody "lied" to anyone. He told the media he planned to be back and then he entered the portal. Nobody did anyone dirty here.

It's a brutal, violent sport with lots of folks making money off it who don't have any skin in the game. Entringer's next play could leave him paralyzed for life. I have no idea of the numbers, but I'd guess a player with his profile might be making $100k (I'm saying this generally, a really solid 4th year player at a good program who will likely end up in the NFL). If you have a shot to find someone who will pay you $400k or $500k for a few months, you have to take it. I'd tell my kids to explore that option too.

It's big business with a life altering injury possible on any given play. Get whatever compensation you can.

If the screen shot below is to believed, there is a huge rage of pay for a safety.

My big question is what's going to happen to the quarter billion dollar project that is CyTown. That whole thing was predicated on the idea that ISU football was headed for Mt Everest and the popularity with clown fans was sky-high. Now with the program in shambles and TJO likely on the way out leaving the b-ball program in the dumpster, who's going to be there to buy the $500,000 suites, condo housing right in that area, and all the people supposedly coming there to spend money on food/drink/apparel, etc? It's half done or whatever, it's not like you can just cancel it now or postpone it.

God I'm glad I didn't grow up a clown. Lolsies.
Not close to half done...it's been a shit show. But yeah I don't think you can back out now.

If it was Lutmer, I'd have already put both fists through a window. Coen? It sucks, but he has 1 year left and he is a very solid player but not a superstar.
