Lestikow article on-Rotation

I never said that. I'm trying to explain to you why people are frustrated, and may think that way. College basketball careers can be long, so it's really not that surprising people are ready for a new face. I believe posters were very harsh on Aaron White his senior year because of his deficiencies, just as they are of Jok now. I know plenty of Badger fans excited for Hayes to graduate, it happens. We all have very fond memories of Whitey just as we will of Jok.

Will he be missed? Absolutely. Can he be replaced? I think so.

I've been emailing a few of my college buddies that are big Wisconsin fans. I asked them if they were excited for Hayes to graduate and they laughed at me for asking that question. They love him

I agree with Chad L. Shorten the rotation. Decide who your top 8-9 guys are and run with them. Fran wants to play too many guys when he doesn't need to.

There is no guarantee that Iowa will be better next year. I think there is a chance they could be about the same. Also, if they get a more difficult Big 10 schedule, they could be better but it might not be reflected in the record.

I agree about a possible tougher conference schedule. It mostly depends on the non conference schedule. We need 2 losses with a minupulated SOS.

Fran drives me bonkers sometimes with this exact issue. Against Minnesota, Moss was on fire and leading the team in points, then down the stretch he never saw the court. The same thing happens to Pemsl a lot. He carried Iowa for large stretches while Cook was injured, and now he doesn't get nearly enough minutes. Uhl, Williams and Kriener need to take a back seat and accept reduced minutes. The other guys are contributing more.

Yeah be it riding the hot hand or if Iowa has a matchup advantage somewhere it seems like those types of things get lost on Fran. Even last year it seemed like there were way too many possessions where Uthoff had a favorable matchup and he wouldn't even get a touch. Things like that blow my mind too.

Pemsl started losing minutes because he was struggling. He seems to be playing better again now tho. No idea what's up with Moss and 2nd halfs. He went through a long stretch where he was invisible too. But to hardly play in the 2nd half against Minnesota was really weird.

While I agree Jok's defense isn't good and as talented as Cook seems to be, there isn't anyone on the team that plays worse defense than Cook. He will probably leave Iowa regarded as a stud, but defense and rebounding leaves a lot to be desired at this point. Team defense is overall quite poor. Elingson and Baer and maybe Uhl are consistently the most productive defenders. Moss could be but he gets lazy at times, potential is there though.

First, the big rotation is not the problem with this team. Second, I tend to think he ought to stay with a big rotation because this is a year for giving honor to your seniors and experience to your underclassmen. Third, then tighten the rotation next year.

What is then?

I am surprised that Moss does not get more minutes just due to his defensive abilities. He does still get out of control on offense at times, which may explain why he is not in for more minutes.

He gets lazy on defense at times, that's usually when Fran yanks him

Just think how good Cook would be if he learned the fundamentals. Scary good.

Well that's an interesting position

PER includes the Drate component to it. Hollinger who is the creator of the stat himself says it is sketchy at best. When you got the guy who created the stat saying that, you know damned well it is a shit stat. Plus if you look at the makeup of the stat itself, it sucks. Rewards rebounding, block shots and steals, and TEAM DEFENSE. Those don't paint a defensive picture. Staying in front of you and your man, lateral quickness, boxing out, positioning, that is defense......not some made up Drate that the creator of the stat said this about it:

Hollinger freely admits that two of the defensive statistics it incorporates—blocks and steals (which was not tracked as an official stat until 1973)—can produce a distorted picture of a player's value and that PER is not a reliable measure of a player's defensive acumen.

I like the Orate stat, and lots of the advanced offensive stats. I LOVE the baseball stats out there now, and they actually do a good job of defensive stats as well. Drate is absolute junk though, especially in the college game. PER uses Drate as a HUGE component to it, so I think it is junk.

What do they reference on the most reputable mock draft sites? Oh yeah, PER

HAHAHAHA.....Yeah, draftexpress lists PER, it must be tots legit now.

It is like most other stats, pretty useless without context and MORE STATS. To think you can come up with just one stat that sums up a player is just stupid. Especially the defensive one that is fundamentally flawed, according to the creator of the stat.
