Must say...Its these Videos are not that impressive, However they are just Videos, so I will not pass judgement on the kid. However it is clear that Fran is one hard working coach!

I read somewhere that he is considered one of the top in his class statewide and possibly the best...just can not find the link now...

Some of you people wouldn't know a player if your lives depended on it. You might as well get used to the idea that Caff is going to offer some kids from out East who have offers from some schools you've never really watched play basketball, but who regularly have players who could start for Iowa even in a good year.

Those video's just kept showing the same plays over and over. I liked some of what I saw. However, I don't need to know if a college prospect can throw a lob pass into the post. The dunk was what I liked most. Looked explosive. Dunking isn't everything to the game, but helps to have athletic ability. He got up pretty high and quick for 6'3".

I like how Caff is going after things hard. Especially with the connections and relationships that he has already built. Sounds like he is going hard after local talent for 2011/2012.

Those are all mid-majors. This looks like the kind of player Lick had been recruiting....offers only from Mid-Majors. Forgive me if I'm less than enthusiastic.

The kid is a junior getting ready for the summer camps and AAU circuit. Why not wait until August to pass judgment on the quality of offers he has. The kid was first team all-state in PA (Class AA) and plays for one of the top Philly area AAU teams. Some "experts" are saying there may be as many as 25 D1 players coming out of Philadelphia in 2011.

I am guessing coach sees a little more in Devin Coleman than you do. By the way, he does have an offer from Temple, a team that won 29 games this year.

Listen...everyone criticized Lick for not bringing in enough talent....and rightly so. But why all of the sudden when Fran offers a kid with almost an identical set of offers he is suddenly so much better than any of the guys Lick recruited? Maybe Fran is in early on the kid...that would be great. But usually kids don't improve enough between their junior and senior year to get the massive inflow of offers you see between the sophomore and junior years.

It would be great if Devin turned into a top 150 prospect...but that typically doesn't happen this late in the process....the top 150 rivals list will stay more or less the same over the next year. For Iowa to be successful in the Big 10 they need to be bringing in top 150 talent. I hope Fran can get us some for the 2011 class...otherwise we may not see post season play until 2014...and I don't want to wait that long.

So, if Villanova offers you will feel differently about the kid?

Absolutely. One of the best ways for fans to tell who is talented (since most don't get to see the prospect play in a game setting), is by the quality and amount of offers that prospect has harbored. Go look at the to 150 for 2010 and 2011. Plenty of Big 10 commits and none of them to Iowa (not that Fran should have any yet). My point is, the top half of the conference is getting the talent, if we want to contend we need to be pulling in the top 150 players too.

Sure he may not improve much. But he IS going to start getting some more attention. Only the ELITE guys get a lot of attention prior to the summer of their junior year. But he looked like a pretty good player to me, and I don't think we can be too choosy at this point.

We can't be choosy for 2011? Are you kidding me? 2010 I agree...but I'm hoping for a real nice 2011 class to be the base of the Hawkeye program for Fran's first 4-5 years. The 2011 has to be a banner class...period.

If we can't get those elite players like you want, then we should just take nobody? THAT'S what I mean by "we can't be choosy". If we aren't going to get the elite players (and expecting that after year 2 is just downright lunacy), then we can't afford to turn away the guys who aren't highly touted, but still good players.

I agree....we need solid players. Listen I'm not looking for 5 star players here. With the new coach who plays up-tempo and a new facility being built I'm hoping Fran can pull in some top 100 guys (4 stars) and a couple 3 stars to round out the class. Maybe I am setting my sights too high? Scott Drew at Baylor came in a got that kind of talent right away at a program that was worse than Iowa is with far less in facilities. No reason we can't do it.
