Latest ESPN Top 100 - Woody and Gesell still there

I wonder when the next time Martin Bros. will have 3 Top 100 guys again? Fran came to Iowa at the right time.

I see Providence has two top 25 recruits. . . who is their coach now? Also bravo to VCU and Wichita St., it's good to see how many kids are not going to the "name brand" schools.

I would have to guess that this Jordan Burgess is the younger brother of the current Burgess on the VCU team.

I love how Iowa fans aren't allowed to expect things out of their top 100 recruits, but with every other fanbase it's OK. I'm not expecting Woodbury or Gessell to set the world on fire, but I absolutely expect them to play 15-20 minutes per game at a minimum and put up decent stats. I think 6 and 6 with at least 1 block per game from Woodbury is a very reasonable expectation, and 8-4 from Gessell.

i dont think anyone says dont expect anything from them. i think there are people that are expecting program changers from day 1 and that is unrealistic as it happens very rarely. like an expectation of a double double from a frosh is outlandish as very few do that as juniors and seniors.

i think 20+ min is expected from them. and i can see 6-8 pts from each and 6 rebs for woody and 4+ assts from gesell. my theory is dont get upset if they dont get those numbers and call for their benching as people turned on basabe when he was struggling or didnt want jo shooting/playing when he was missing shots.

Gessel will do better than everyone thinks. Honestly, I know I'm biased, but I felt he was right there as the best player on the floor the other night. Unselfish, great vision, and he didn't let anyone beat him on defense. He played hard and if he hits that last shot, he tops off a great night. Fran will have him playing great ball by January.

The thing I was most impressed with was his handle on the ball. He's not going to turn the ball over much as a freshman, which is what my big concern was. He's got great ball skills and he sees the floor with the eyes of a much older player. Very impressive.

Honestly, in Frans offense, he could lead the Big Ten in assists next year. He will get a ton of opportunities to penetrate and dish. I love his game.

I'm not so sure anyone in this class has to be a game changer for the addition of this class to change the game.

Iowa has some good returning talent that has been playing together for a few seasons. To that we add depth, address major weaknesses with this class with talented kids.

Individual stats aside, this group I think will change the game right off the bat. $.02.

Ding, ding, ding...we have a winner folks; thanks for playing.

Good points. If AW & MG can combine for 14 points and 6 RBS and 4 Assists they can make up for Matt Gatens, barely (less leadership)

If some combination of the 3 other newbes... a few or more minutes, a couple of buckets, rebounds, an assist and some floor burns...

AND the current roster can improve... say by 10 or 15 percent of production and toughness... willing to win

the Hawkeyes will finish in the top half, or better, in the Big Ten next year. Post season absolutely.. dreams of sweet 16 and beyond...

OH yeah.

I expect just right...

I was joking. I've been a big supporter of Woodbury and Gesell and I do believe they are program changing type players. Woodbury will average at least 8 and 5 and I think Gesell with average around 8 and 4. I think the bigger impact though is what there presence will mean to others on the team, especially Marble and Basabe. Iowa fans try to dumb down our recruits for whatever reason. These two kids are on record as saying they expect to be in the NCAA tournament next year and sometime in their career's be in a Final Four.

This without a doubt is the most excited I have ever been for the basketball program. With that said, this will be the longest off season in my life. The agony is great enough that I keep rereading posts like this on a daily basis (no offense) to feed my anticipation for next year. All I can say is keep it up and thank you!

Haha...it's cool PA...I suspected you may have been trying to lob one at "those guys", but I couldn't be sure and I too must be a smartass. I think some Iowa fans spend so much time trying to brace for a letdown that they refuse to enjoy the ride...and this is getting to be a LOT of fun!
