Last Two Home Games

Agreed knight, both the lighting and the background visible behind the hoop play a large part in why players shoot a lower percentage in the road. Both are a larger factor than crowd noise in my experience.

I agree with this completely. Along with traveling that includes flying and sleeping in a hotel. Many factors contribute to home field advantages. Just ask Kyrie Irving about bed bugs. Nothing like your own bed.

The crowd still affects some players. Some players may thrive on a hostile crowd such as Reggie Miller. Coaches talk about having experienced senior leaders helping while playing on the road. This to me is in regards to sticking to the game plan and not letting the crowd affect your play. I don't believe the seniors help the younger players with lighting and the new environment. It is regarding crowds and hostile environments. The more a person has been through it the less it affects them.

Reggie Miller vs a freshmen playing its first game in Madison square garden will be affected differently in most cases. Every person has a different make up. I can believe that some players aren't affected at all and some are. Reggie vs Spike is one of the coolest games I've ever seen.

Regardless of this argument. I just want an environment for the last two games that reflect where our team is more for personal enjoyment than to "help" the team win. We have a veteran team that the crowd probably won't affect as much as younger players whether at home or away.

I was at Hilton 2 years ago for the last Hawkeye visit there. I can say first hand the crowd affected the game. When Gessel was at the line at the end, it was so loud my ears hurt and the rim was definitely moving. And I was near the top, I can't imagine what it would have been like on the floor, students in the background, rim moving around. Not trying to make excuses for the missed free throws but it was pretty dang tough. I've been to Allen Fieldhouse a few times and Ames that night was the loudest I"ve ever heard an arena.

So, what makes the difference? Why can it be done in Hilton, but not Carver? This sounds more like a problem I would expect at McLeod. Even the crowd at Wells Fargo seemed quite subdued for a game that still looked like it might be competitive well into the second half.

Considering the amount of pressure one has to go through to be a high level athlete it's difficult to imagine a bunch of weird people yelling at them will be the breaking point. Also, i would imagine the adrenaline would be flowing enough from taking place in a high level competition that any amount gained from people yelling in their support would likely be minimal of not a detriment.

I don't expect former players to ever admit they were affected by the crowd noise, nor would I ever expect an official to admit it either. But it does have an impact whether it be consciously or subconsciously.

Again I say, if you want to move the student section and you want a rowdier crowd just say you want it to increase your enjoyment of the game, because no amount of you yelling will cause the Hawks to win any more games.

Yes the fans were terrible at PSU and Maryland, more cheering from the hawk fans would have made those FTs drop.
