Kyle Meyer Arrested for Public Intox

They're protecting the GD kid passed out in the bathroom! They're serving all of the people who might come across the 7" 245lbs kid who is out of control drunk and probably capable of anything. They're serving that freaking janitor, who despite your flippant disregard of, is not that kid's mom and should not have to clean up after him when he's too stupid and selfish to consider his actions.

You think it is is Kyle's best interest that he be able to drink himself into a coma without consequence? Who thinks that it is in the best interests of the community to allow people too drunk to function to roam around free? It's not like drunks ever start fights, or damage property.

Stop making excuses for this kid and his stupid decisions.

is there anything you don't get worked up over?

You are describing a scenario of disorderly conduct, which can affect others and is a valid crime. Public intoxication is a victimless crime, unless it is coupled with disorderly conduct.

No where in the report did it say he was an "out of control drunk". Therefore it appears he was not guilty of disorderly conduct.

Also.... yes, that janitor IS responsible for cleaning up after him. It's his job. It's what he's paid to do. End of story.

That all being said, he was acting like a stupid kid. I'd guess that most of us on here can remember what it was like to be 18 and free of our parents for the first time. We were just lucky to not get caught. No need for any of us to be hypocrites.

Shouldn't you be out there making sure all the cheerleaders don't get into trouble? The kid is 18 and made a mistake. Get off your freaking soapbox...it wasn't like he was throwing stuff of the dorm balconies or damaging property, or picking fights.

Guess what...the janitor works at a place where he's probably come to understand that cleaning up a little puke may be part of the job with 18-19 year old kids. It happens and it's part of growing up...no matter how mature you are for your age. It's pretty damn easy to get caught up in a drinking game or a party at that age and before you know it...well you know the rest.

Not all, Fm. some of us were raised Catholic Boys......

Can't help myself, Love this song......

:D

I loves me some Jim Carroll, Jack. Have several of his albums and the movie he appeared in, Tuff Turf, with a very young James Spader.

That said, I wouldn't have minded if the cops would have escorted Kyle back to his room rather than arresting the kid. They could have still informed Coach McCaffery of the incident but saved the kid from some public humiliation.

I did that when i was 18 yrs old but did anyone get on my case? no only my dad did but he didn't make a big deal out of it.I turn out pretty good guy. There's two ways to go thru life is make mistakes and learn from it or never learn from your mistakes and still keep same mistakes again and again....
Kyle Meyer is just a kid . let's not encourage him to do that again.....

I'm with 'Stache on this one. The cops are protecting Kyle just as much as they are anyone who comes into contact with a drunk 6-10, 220-pound athlete. If I'm Kyle's parents, while I may not be happy that he was arrested and even more mad and disappointed that he got himself so drunk to the point the cops were called, I think I would appreciate that someone was looking out for his interests away from home, even if it is po po.

^^ Hey, check out the Socialist! ^^
You always b!tch and moan and teabag about Big Gov't intrusion in the lives of citizens.
Wha' happen?!?

Let's suppose the cops did "give him a break" and escort him back to his room. Then let's suppose he continued drinking and.......passed out and choked to death on his vomit or got in a fight and seriously hurt someone or got hurt or fell out a window or fell down some stairs or decided to get behind the wheel cause he was hungry or ended up in bed with some drunk chick who claimed sexual assault the next morning.

I say the cops did him a favor. Public Intox is pretty tame compared to the other things that could've happened.

Ah, but maybe nothing would've happened to him, you say? True. Now the next time there is a party, he will think nothing of getting polluted again. After all, nothing happened last time, right? I just hope he learned from this.

If the police would have escorted him back to his room, and informed Coach McCaffery about the incident. I would assume Fran would have notified his parents and read him the riot act regarding what would occur if the incident was repeated. I would have been more satisfied with that outcome rather than see him humiliated in public and besmirch the program.

Law and order, Dude. Law and order. Keeping the streets clean and free of human debris, and capturing or killing turrists at home and abroad! :p:p:p

Dude was already passed out. He wasn't going rally and start smashing moar natty light and become violent or rapey.
He got hammered, passed out near a toilet....and ended up arrested because of that.
It's absurd. Cops did not employ good common sense, imo.

How is it legal to issue a public intox citation in Hillcrest dorm which is a private property (UofI)? Did the UofI public safety issue it? Wondering the the police followed him to the dorm. I'm not sure the Iowa City police can enter to issue the ticket.
I think I know what happened, so bear with me on this.

I am pretty sure what happened was that the ICPD probably stakes out the dorm rooms of all of the Iowa athletes and follows them the entire night. Then, when they are on the way home they make sure they are legally drunk and then, bam, they pounce on them after they enter their dorm and the ICPD doesn't care if it is illegal to arrest a student in the dorm or not. If they want to go after a player they are darn well going to get their guy:)

But they did enforce the law. I got no problem with it.

I agree 200% with you Stache. Sure, he's a freshman. Sure, we all made / make stupid mistakes. Bottom line is Meyer needs to wake up and wake up quick. Stupid decisions like this will very, very quickly wipe-out scholarships and the nice path he's gotten himself on up to this point. He's already got a major uphill battle in front of him for minutes, now this? This "event" might help Fran in his decision making process. Meyer needs to recognize he now lives in a fishbowl, and bullshi# like this will cost him dearly.
