Kurt Warner first Iowan in NFL hall of fame

What punter is in the hall other than Ray Guy? Punters are a hard sell and I don't really disagree to be honest with you.

There should be a "Specialist" section, perhaps, but I tend to agree. Then again, there ARE "special teams" stars that deserve consideration, so maybe punters/kickers need to be considered.

Help me out on this. Why wasn't Warner a Hawkeye? I don't know the story on this.

He wasn't very well-regarded coming out of high school and didn't get any major offers.

He didn't even start for UNI until his senior year.

I'm surprised Reggie Roby (Waterloo native) isn't in the NFL Hall of Fame. He had a great/long career with the Dolphins.
Well since Morten Anderson the highest scoring kicker ever just not got in I'm not too surprised Roby isn't in. Hall just isn't very kicker friendly. Ray Guy just got in a year or two ago himself. I'd say if another punter ever was to get in it'd be him but not holding my breath

How in the hell is Roger Craig not in the Hall?
Popularity.... There's really no other reason he had a better career then Terrell Davis head to head. He was a stud. The longer away from his playing career the tougher it'll be for him to get in.. I am pretty surprised Davis got in. I guess that bodes well for Calvin Johnson when his time comes... Speaking of WRs how about TO getting the shaft? His stats blow most every receiver except Jerry Rice out of the water. (You can almost throw Rices out his are so ridiculous he's the GOAT hands down.) For TO to not be in yet is just writers holding his personality against him. That's it. He'll get I eventually but I think it's beyond stupid that they are doing this to him or anybody.

Nobody wanted him.... Not even sure he got a scholly offer to UNI right away either. It's all apart of his made for Disney Movie of a career. I forget if Iowa had gotten Burmeister instead about that same time or not I could be wrong about that though. I really look forward to hearing both his introduction speech given by whomever he choses to do it oand then his own. I bet it'll be his wife that gives it...

Jay Johnson (Minnesota's Offensive Coordinator last year) was the guy that played ahead of him and was very good. Warner almost quit football at UNI because he didn't want to sit on the bench.

Dick Vermiel is my guess....get that man a box of Kleenex

Congrats to KW. Great attention to the state. I wonder how much he will mention the state or UNI in his speech. He didn't get much attention locally until he exploded in the NFL.

It sounds like he is trying to cash in on his celebrity these days. Maybe he has been for awhile??.

Radio hosts on 106.3 in Eastern Iowa yesterday said he won't come on their show unless he is paid.

Reminds me of Dana Kirk. The former Memphis Tigers BB coach. He refused interviews unless he was paid.

Not equating the two but if this is true, come on Kurt. How common is this do you think?

Could be true. Ummm. So? He doesn't have to take every interview request. Look at his many charitable pursuits...for women...for children...for Iowans....for st louis..for so many people. I think he's probably still a living saint lol

Obviously completely different generations and coaching staffs. But given the number of elite players that come out of the state of Iowa. Can you think of two bigger whiffs by college coaches, in a single state, than David Johnson and Kurt Warner. They might both be NFL HOFers by the time DJ's career is said and done.

And both attended UNI, where Warner only started for a single season IIRC. DJ was born in TN BTW.

Side note. How is Roger Craig not in?
Most under rated playmaker of the 80s... His highlight real along with his body of work is really really good. I think he just gets lost in the shuffle of being on that 49ers team with Montana and Rice. I dunno. It's too bad because he was the first dual threat RB catching passes out of the backfield like he did. He was as much of a reason the 49ers were as good as they were as anyone. I'm not sure any other joe blow running back could do what all he did.

Was a great show on the NFL Network last night about him. A lot of cool stuff on there and interviews with guys/coaches from college, the Packers, and the teams he actually played for. Favre told about when Warner was a camp arm with the Packers and was told to go in. Warner refused because he wasn't ready. Strange story, but glad it worked out for him. Recommend watching it.
