Kirk Herbstreit has no credibility

Everyone schedules garbage non conference anyway. The most forgivable loses should be non conference against good teams, that way people won't be afraid to schedule them. Record should be the main indicator with strength of schedule being the tie breaker.

Hawkeye nation is the reason he is anti iowa....agree or disagree..for or against...he hates iowa fans. There is no reason for him to be so blatantly obtuse to iowa otherwise. It's ok...but he has taken the personal insults personally :)

Iowa played a tougher non con than Bama, Ohio St., Okie St., Baylor, Oklahoma.....tougher than 90% of P5 teams actually. The problem is Iowa missed the 3rd and 4th toughest B1G teams (they will meet the 2nd best team at the B1G 'ship). That isn't their fault, nothing they could do to change that.

I agree about him being gun shy and going with the more traditional picks....especially given that he picked now 6- 5 ASU to be in the Final 4

Please, Herby isn't that thin skinned, and Hawk fans didn't drive him from his home like Buckeye fans did:

"Nobody loves Ohio State more than me," said Herbstreit, a former Buckeyes quarterback. "I still have a picture of Woody Hayes and my dad (Jim, a former OSU player) in my office, and nobody will do more than I do for the university behind the scenes. But I've got a job to do, and I'm going to continue to be fair and objective. To continue to have to defend myself and my family in regards to my love and devotion to Ohio State is unfair."

"From a sports perspective, this is rough," he said. "I love Ohio State. Love the Blue Jackets. Love the Reds. Those are my hobbies. I don't like moving. I love living here. I don't want to leave. But I just can't do this anymore. I really can't keep going like this.

"Eighty to ninety percent of the Ohio State fans are great. It's the vocal minority that make it rough. They probably represent only 5 to 10 percent of the fan base, but they are relentless."

The problem I see here is with MSU being ranked #3. I don't have a problem if he has Iowa at #5....but to be below that is plain crazy.

I think he is probably just putting this out there for ESPN rankings.

Bottom line, if Iowa wins their next 2 they are in. Even Herbie said that.

Our Hawks really do control their on destiny, just be humble, and keep putting in work, and everything else will line up for our Hawks. Its awesome seeing and hearing all the negative talk about Iowa! It let's us know that our coaches and team is doing something right. As for Herbstreit, he's butt hurt about his Buckeyes choking up and losing. Its all up to our Hawks & how bad they want it. All I can say, is what a team effort and season from a bunch of 2 & 3 star kids unlike all the other loaded teams in this race for the Playoff! Go Hawks! Shock the college football world!

Good wins, good losses, eye test , strength of schedule, various pollsters, computer analysis, rankings, on and on. How can a team playing in one of the finest conferences in the nation, year in and year out, with an 11-0 record, not deserve a top ranking among division 1 schools? The top two polls currently have Iowa ranked #3 in the country. The Committee charged with determining who plays for the national championship has Iowa ranked #5 two weeks in a row and will likely have them in the top 4 or 5 on Tuesday. What does Kirk need to know? What do the other ESPN talking heads, AKA, SEC shills, need to know? WE are not the ones out of line; they are making ***** of themselves, pure and simple.

If he believes that MSU would beat Iowa in the Big Ten Title game, why would he not put MSU at #4? To me he is thinking more long term then short term.

Do any of them? I mean come on. They are just like the weatherman, they don't know any more than him. Time to quit caring what any of them think.

Herbstreit is one of the best in the business. I don't mind that he has Iowa outside looking in. If we beat Nebraska and he still has Sparty ahead of us, then I think he's badly mistaken......but some of you dudes need to chill.

You're a tough man to impress.

I agree. So, when did it change a team scoring 35-40 pts every game is not exciting or "eye test" worthy. That pizzes me off. It isn't like this team is scoring 17 pts every game. This team runs the ball, stops the run (for the most part). Probably leads the conference & at the top of all of college football in TO margin. Has a corner taking away a side of the field & leads the nation in INT's. Oh, on top of that, this team is at the top of the BIG & prob whole country with plays over 40 yrds.

Throw in that a stout D that a lot of the video game teams don't have and you have an exciting team. I don't get the "their not exciting" talk! F them all!!

We still have a lot to prove. I am confident that if our team keeps playing one game at a time then our kids will have good things coming their way. It may be a Big Ten championship, it may be the Rose Bowl, or it may be the playoff. Either way our guys will be ready to play.

Thank you Mr. Cliche!

I don't know if they have a lot to prove anymore. The Rose Bowl is all but a lock as consolation prize and anything going forward is a bonus to me. Yea, I'd be disappointed if they were to lose just because of how close they are, but, nobody predicted this out of this team at the beginning. They have been playing single loss playoff football for like at least 3 wks now. Again, to me everything is a bonus now. I wouldn't say they still have A LOT to prove. They've proven EVERYBODY wrong up to this point!

Lol, you realize you just proved that he is thin skinned, right?

I love that that poster stays in character so well.

Other than the pre season poll, polls aren't supposed to be a prediction. They're supposed to be based off the games that have been played up to that point.

At this point, the pundits are just too embarrassed to back off of their claims that IA stinks. Despite the glaring evidence to the contrary, they won't back down. How would that look if the "geniuses" were wrong?

I also get the sense that anyone working at eSECpn thinks they should be the ones determining the playoff teams. I love watching those idiots question every week why Clemson is ahead of Bama (who've they've already pinned in as having won the national title).

These are just football dorks who are on t.v., no different than us here (minus the t.v. part). They're also the type (to inflate their self worth) who claim football takes some genius level thinking to be able to fully understand. Problem is, this is just a game that even 5 year olds understand.

tldr;
Sorry, Herbie, you're opinion is actually valueless, but entertaining.

Iowa hasn't really impressed me in games with Purdue, Minnesota and Maryland, 40 points not withstanding.

We'll see how the hawks do against teams that don't shoot themselves in the foot.
I presume you're not including Nebraska as one of the teams.

I respect Herbstreit more now than I did in previous seasons. He sticks by his guns, he might be wrong (and I hope he is) but he takes a lot of grief from people and he remains relentless in his opinions. You should hear how some of the Ohio State fans talk about him, it isn't pretty. As much as I love the Hawks even I still don't feel like this is a playoff team, but I'm having a tough time finding teams that are better. IMO, there is a lot of parity in college football this year.

I may not really understand why Kirk rags on Iowa all the time, but the man is one of the best color commentators in the game...I love listening to him call games.

I would like to see Iowa win the rest of their games, but I think they will probably lose the next three. All the Nebraska losses have been pretty close games.
