Kirk Ferentz on Falling Short in B1G West Again

we won the west 5 seasons ago but it feels like we have taken a step backwards. maybe 2 steps.

now we have 3 really good wideouts but not the Tends, the Off Line is weaker, we have a really good defense but not the ball hawks like king and Jackson.

decent Qb with big arm but not CJB mobility or gamesmanship or accuracy

it is a letdown

Don't blame O'Keefe. If the offensive coordinator needs a "mentor" he needs to get his ass down to the MAC or Sun Belt for half a decade to learn what the hell he is doing.

you have an offensive staff who can’t adjust in game or in philosophy. We all know who the scapegoat is. Polasek.

Those who think Chad L., and the media in general, will not confront KF, might want to read his article. Hmm.

Kirk ball is conservative. Let's face it as long as he is running the show our mentality will be to just out execute the other teams. He believes we can line up with any team and the players execute what we draw up all is good. Forget attacking weakness that's apparently too risky unless we fall way behind like yesterday. We can expect the same crap this weekend against Minny. Run the ball, run the ball again...3rd and 8..3 yard quick outs punt. Minny will open a lead and then and only then will we throw it downfield. Take it to the bank. I see Minny passing all over us because Captain PJ has the balls to go after our secondary. I would say that's our weak spot on defense.

This is off-topic, but did anyone else notice how poorly PSU's corners looked yesterday, especially #5?

Yes, MN has some outstanding WRs, but, regardless, those corners really stunk it up yesterday.

I'd say the LBs are the weak spot of the D. But you're right PJ will have a game plan specifically to attack Iowa. Kirk will do exactly what you said, try to establish the run even though Iowa isn't good at it & Minnesota has weak spots in their secondary that he'll ignore.

Those big tall athletic WR have a way of making shorter DBs look bad. Our safety better be ready for an all assault on him.

Get O'Keefe's name out of your mouth, bud. O'Keefe ain't out there calling plays. If the defense could have gotten off the field, maybe we wouldn't have lost time of possession 37-23. It's a miracle the offense kept us in that game.
Wow, call the reality police, the defense set up the first score on the stripped ball. Only got 3 on that. The defense would have had a shut out in the first period if not for a fumble by Stanley. The defense gave Nate the ball on his own 40 twice in the third along with two other possessions and the offense scored O points. The defense intercepted the ball and set up Stanley in the 4th. I think we settled for 3. Did we watch the same game? The defense started breaking down in the fourth because of your time of possession stat. It only was trying to contain the best running back in D1 and one of the best OL's in the country all game.

Yeah. Like look, if you get hired at Ol Miss and have to get through Bama, LSU and Auburn every year or at South Carolina and have to play Florida, Georgia, Tennessee (down now) and Clemson every year, by all means cite the schedule for a bad record. Programs like Mississippi State or Arkansas or South Carolina can have really good teams and end up 8-4. If you have a really good team in the Big Ten West, it is damned near impossible not to win at least 10 games.
And maybe if the SEC played a real conference schedule (9 games vs 8..like every conference)and not have 4 free wins every year at home

Kirk mathematically you're a day late and a couple hundred dollars short of running a competent offense. I cast some frustration Nate's way and BF's way this is allllllll Kirk NOT being able to evolve to keep from going extinct. What a JOKE. Your best playmakers are out on the edges and you do NOTHING down field the entire game until you fall helplessly behind. We are going to live with the I-formation drudgery until he retires. Like others have stated the one consistent here is Kirk at the helm period.

i find it interesting that no one has asked kirk about the record vs .500 and above conference foes the past three seasons. maybe someone has and i missed it. but asking how he feels not winning the West again is a softball compared to asking why we are, essentially, a bottom feeder in the B1G in his 21st season.

As a conference they have decided to prioritize spots in the CFP. Fewer conference games helps them do that.

Brian didn't embarrass Lovie last year, Illinois quit. So you can rip and rip and rip on how clueless Brian is but when it works for one game he is trying to embarrass the opponent and that's wrong too?
Quit defending ferentz x 2. You are leaking water all over the ship. And many of us are really tired of it
