Kirk Ferentz, Iowa Players Support Noah Fant’s Decision

So, Hockenson would like Fant around another year. Is that because TJ won't be around or is that because TJ would like to play with him another year?

Furthermore, there are few posters here that might want to reconsider how they feel about Noah after hearing the players speak so highly of him. He was a great teammate. The only place I heard anything different was from clowns on message boards, twitter, and other social media outlets.

I’m guessing that it was a tell that Hock is coming back.

College football is a developmental league for the NFL.

Not really about getting a "degree" and learning to be part of team success, or failure.

I think it is his only move, why wait around for the bowl game when 1-2 short passes will be tossed his way. He would be watching much of it from the sidelines, why not watch it at home, where you won't get hurt?

The attitudes toward Fant are pretty darned embarrassing. Kirk is always right.

They seem sincere to me, but I really have no idea if they are. I do know it would be a bad look for them if they said they did have a problem with him sitting out the bowl game, especially the players with not much of a chance at playing in the NFL.

Yawn.

Watch the video. Tell me they're not sincere. Or just be cynical.

Not cynical at all. Just realistic. Of course they're gonna support their teammate. I wouldn't expect any less.

And why the yawn? Need some sleep? I can relate.

Not sure how anyone could not fully understand and support Fants decision. His measurables alone all but make him a first round lock.

The whole drama surrounding him, didn't come from him.

Hopefully we get more like him.

Selfishly, would love him and everyone else back.

He is still making the right decision for him. From a team aspect, it is debatable at best if that was a team like move. Or course, his former teammates are not going to speak negatively of him and wish him well. IMHO, Kirk Ferentz had it right when he used the word "disappointing" in this situation.

I have zero patience for those criticizing fant. I feel like I've stated this a hundred times now.

- average NFL career = 3.3 years
- average guaranteed salary of a mid level 1st round draft choice = $12,000,000
- time between outback bowl and NFL combine = ~56 days

It's a no brainer.

The reason Fant was under-utilized isn't because of his brother or any of that bullshit. It's because he's not a true tight end in the mold of Iowa tight ends. Hockensen is. Hockensen is a better blocker. Fant is essentially a freakish huge wide receiver. He should've been used as such. They should have just split him out wide and laughed as defensive backs tried to deal with it.

I mean, it's what I would have done.

I'm yawning because it's a tired take.

Not trying to pick a fight, Rob. But how is this tired? It's true. Wouldn't you expect players to support their teammate when interviewed?... especially at Iowa. Nothing wrong with it...it's just true.

As a journalist, I would think you'd be more tired of predictable coach-speak and canned responses.

It’s the sincerity of their words and why they support him. It’s not just supporting him.

Your take is tired because it’s predictable and common around. “Come on” what do you expect them to say is tired.

I’m guessing your comment was posted without having watched the Iowa players talk about Fant. They’re not canned responses.

I’m done. I’ve made my point.

Its definitely the right move, as long as you're not competitive and you have no loyalty to your teammates.
