Kirk Ferentz, Iowa Players Support Noah Fant’s Decision

Yes, seems Fant should have quit playing right before the game where he suffered the concussion. In hindsight, that would have been opportune time to do it.

Is the CFP the only thing that has any meaning at this point? If that is the case, why don't entire teams forfeit the remainder of their schedule once they are eliminated from contending?

Yes, yes it is. It's like basketball. When Iowa plays in Madison in February and loses and the crowd starts chanting "N-I-T, N-I-T" it is not a compliment. As to why schools don't forfeit, the answer is simply money. The schools and conferences stand to make substantial amounts of money from attending bowl games and selling media rights.

Again, NF just recently received his report from the NFL Draft advisory board. He wasn't sure during the regular season how he was viewed. He had an idea, but the review gave him knowledge that he's projected as a high first-round pick.

As for guys sitting out that are in Fant's shoes this season:

Nick Bosa is projected as the No. 1 pick. He could have come back from injury later this season but decided to focus on the draft.

Houston's Ed Oliver is sitting out. He's projected to be a Top `10 pick.

LSU CB Greedy Williams is sitting out the Fiesta Bowl. Again, projected Top 10 pick.

Michigan DL Rashan Gary is a projected top pick. He's sitting out the Peach Bowl.

Arizona State WR N'Keal Harry, one of the top players at his position, is skipping the Las Vegas Bowl.

NC State WR Kelvin Harmon is skipping the Gator Bowl.

Kentucky DE Josh Allen still is considering skipping the Citrus Bowl.

There are quite a few guys from the CFP teams that are projected high. They obviously aren't going to skip those games.

There are guys, including the two Mississippi State standout D-Linemen Sweat and Simmons, that plan to play in their bowls but that could change should they get their reviews back and decide it's safer to skip them.

The bottom line is that Fant is not out on an island here.

I hope like hell those guys sit out or else we'll have to watch like 3 minutes of draft coverage of plays that look like this, but against Iowa:

It is definitely picking up steam. There are still more choosing to play than choosing to sit, however. And as I detailed above, it's not like the high picks are the only ones risking something (or even risking the most).

Maybe if it gets to the point that a majority of the first-round talent sits out non-CFP bowls, or a substantial chunk of draft eligible players sit out across all projected rounds, college football will consider an actual expanded playoff and do away with bowls?

Fant’s choice of

NFL vs. NCAA or

play vs. opt out

Has
100% effect on his life
0% effect on my life and
Not much bigger % on his team mates lives

So
I’m happy for him in the decision he made.

Thanks for being a Hawk!

It seems like a lot of people think money is more important than lifelong memories with friends, others think memories are more important than money. That's the basis of this whole argument.

Choosing one route gives you an extremely high likelyhood that you get both. Choosing the other route guarantees you only get one of those.
