Kirk and lack of accountability

How is no one else ticked off with the fact that Kirk and Gary Barta has snowballed the media and fans from talking about the season? How is that ok to say "we aren't going to discuss the season until after the bowl?" That is complete BS. I think they came up with that after Kirk started fielding some fairly hard pressed questions in the post game. He does not handle pressure well at all and his coping mechanism to these hard questions is to either give one word answers or end the session abruptly. The last 2 or 3 questions of the post game were geared toward more of what the fans wanted to hear and then boom he says I'm not going to go global and talk about the season until it's over. It basically buys him 4 weeks to coach the hell out of this team in hopes that he gets a win. As I have said before it's kinda sick and twisted but I almost want a complete a** kicking from whomever we play so Kirk can either be shown the door or be faced with certain changes in the staff. I'm not sure that any part of me wants him back at all but if after the bowl game he says Brian is going to be the OC and make any and all offensive personnel decisions and same thing with Phil and or hire another quality d coordinator (Brain Matteison (sp?) dad will be free) to do the same on D and Kirk is more of an GM much like Paterno was late in his career I might settle for that. Thoughts??

I don't know what anyone expects a guy like Kurt to say after laying an egg. The teams didn't play well, and the coaching was dog crap for long stretches of the season. Is he gonna take the blame or give a non-answer? No. Is he gonna pull a Fitz and blame the players? No. I'm not sure what you want the guy to say.

What accredited coordinator would come to Iowa? You really want KF ruining your career? Look at who he plays, look at who he recruits, look at how he manages a games. KF is toxic. That's why we are who we are. No new hire is going to change that except the head coach.

That's why I said earlier that said OC and or DC would have complete control of the o and d INCLUDING personnel decisions.

If you are willing to settle for brian ferentz as OC you're dumber than *******. Mind telling us what credentials he possesses to warrant promoting him. His vaunted line, with perhaps 3 pro caliber players, sucked this year.

I don't know how smart Barta is (excluding his 10 year contract boondoggle) but if he was astute, he would use this opportunity to publicly state what his expectations are for Iowa football. He needs to reclaim authority over KF and the only way he can do that is to get the boosters and fan-base in support of him, that will allow him the opportunity to restore accountability to the Iowa football program.

Sure, it might create a rift between Barta and KF but that's a risk he has to take because right now he is more vulnerable than KF. KF's lackluster performance in 2014, combined with his contempt for providing any meaningful answers, should warrant a re-negotiation of his contract. If no accountability is demanded after this year's performance, Barta is derelict in performing his job and should be relieved of his duties.

I believe we place too much importance on the contract itself; it's obvious to everyone that watches college football that the landscape is constantly changing, thus the idea that the expectations set at the time the 10 year extension was signed must remain unchanged until 2020 is not a reasonable position. He needs to portray it as a matter of what should take priority, i.e. the overall health and performance of the Iowa football program or strictly adhering to KF's contractual language.

If Barta has the courage to act, he can reset the expectations higher than what KF has been delivering.

It's easy for him to come out and tell us what he expects, but that doesn't mean he is going to enforce it. I am not going to be happy with ANYTHING short of termination...there is not ONE ounce of proof that things are going to get better.

Not a huge fan of Barta by any means, but if he wants to get rid of Kirk without firing him and being on the hook for the buyout, all he has to do is fire Brian.

Great point, Barta is Brian's boss so he could fire him without Kirk's permission, but I don't think Barta has the courage to do this.
