Kinnick - Game Atmoshphere

How did it sound on tv? I was there in person and have never heard it that loud, during a few periods of the game. It was electric, frustrating, exhilarating, and heartbreaking all at the same time. I simply watched as a fan and came away beat up. I can't imagine how the players feel. It was the kind of game you don't appreciate right away.

I feel the offense is just inches away from clicking. Hopefully they can bounce back in a tough road environment next week and come away with a W. As it is right now, I think this is the game that determines how the rest of the season turns out.

It was one game that was constantly loud on TV, reminiscent of a top NFL game. You guys at the game did good.

Iowa should be proud of that atmosphere. I think the Penn St people were impressed with it. Franklin and Barkley both commented on it.

WELL DONE!!

This game was a gut wrenching game to lose but the fans should be proud of the players and of themselves. The announcers even committed on how loud it was in Kinnick. The stadium looked fabulousl and the fans were of epic volume! I'm so very proud of the Hawks and of our fans! Great job!

The way these games are at Kinnick at night, National TV won't shy away from going to Kinnick when deciding between games. Bodes well.

The atmosphere is great and Ferentz usually plays all teams close. Great for TV.

it was really loud on tv. ESPN would occasionally show different camera angles and the cameras were shaking because of the noise. The cell phones during the hospital wave looked really good on tv as well.

Just really impressive all around.

I've been to well over 100 games at Kinnick. When Wadley busted that run with 1:40 (or whatever it was) left in the game it was the loudest I have ever heard the stadium. Ear distortion loud.

Ha, I know exactly what you mean. One of those early drives when PSU was backed up in the south endzone, it was so loud my ears were ringing and my head was pounding.

I wasn't able to be at the game, but it sounded loud the entire game on the tv. The loudest games I've personally experienced:

1. Wisky game in 2004 for the B1G title and the Wisky game in 2010 was the loudest sustained noise for an entire game I've ever heard. From my couch, this one sounded like it might have been louder.
2. Michigan game in 2003, when they were driving at the end after we took the lead, was the loudest I've ever heard it on a single drive.
3. I wasn't at the 2016 Michigan game, but was at the 2015 Pitt game and that was the loudest I had ever heard it for a single play when we kicked the 57 yarder as time expired....I'm sure the kick to beat Michigan was louder, though....

Read somewhere the announced crowd was ~66,000. Is that accurate? It didn't look like we were 4,000 short of a sellout, and it definitely didn't sound like it, Kinnick was rocking all night.

The crowd was great, people were cheering on every PSU offensive play from the beginning to the end. I was very happy with the crowd.

I brought a PSU fan with me. He thought the sound after Jewell's interception was the loudest of the night, although Wadley's two big plays were also crazy.

The sustained noise during PSU plays was impressive. The fans brought it for 99 defensive snaps.

Official attendance number was 66,205. Iowa drew more fans for the Wyoming game, so I'm guessing the combination of night game plus ticket prices factored in.

From a financial standpoint, it was still a win. I think there are 40,000 season ticket holders who are paying the same amount as they did last year. That means there were about 26,000 single game tickets sold. Those 26,000 single game tickets were about $20 higher than the typical "big game" avg of $75, so that was an add'l $520k in revenue. Subtract the 4,600 that would probably have paid the previous $75 ticket price and that is $345k. So the athletic dept made about $175k more at $95 than they would have at $75....

From where I stand, though, I'm not sure that $175k is worth not having a sellout....

Glad to hear it was as loud as I hoped it was. I've been a season ticket holder for 6 years and Kinnick is sacred ground to me. The crowd never disappoints. Not sure if it's the fact I'm pushing 40 or that I'm now starting to take my kids to games, but I get emotional every time the team walks down the tunnel these days. Or hell, maybe it's just the alcohol!
