KF retiring?

How about this question, gentlemen. Would you rather Coach announce his retirement preseason and have a last season, or just retire at an end of a season?
Never ever do that before the season. Huge unnecessary distraction and not fair to players. Nick Saban or Scott Frost, this game ain’t about the coaches it’s about the players and that’s all the media is going to talk about.

If you’re going to retire and announce it publicly you do it right after the bowl game.

Remember Nebby getting a share of ‘97 title cause Osbern said he was retired before their bowl.

OABCIG, I’ve seen Jaxx play hoops and football against my nephew (Tri Center) a few times. Coop showed up to the BB playoff game in Harlan.
It’s actually BH/RV I was talking about and when they make the trip way up here they check West Lyon out. Scherff lives in Rock Valley and last year my buddy who has a kid playing b-ball sent me a pic of Woods, KF, Scherff, and Andrew Van Ginkel (Vikings LB) sitting in the bleachers together. Pretty cool for this podunk part of the state.

LeVar usually hits about 3 track meets a year in our conference. Watches sprints and shot/disc for whoever he’s scouting and by that time he’s usually starting to draw a crowd and heads out. Lots of recruiters make appearances at track meets because you can see 8-10 schools worth of athletes at once.

I have a hunch whenever Kirk decides to retire, he will wait to announce it in June. This will helps the odds they just promote somebody from.his staff to be the new head coach.

If it was up to me, if they were to fill the spot internally, I would name Phil Parker the next coach, but it could be Lavar Woods, Seth Wallace, or even Tim Lester, all are realistic choices, I believe.
Phil is not going to be the next HC. He'd have done that a long time ago if he wanted to.

Fryowa, do you have an email I can directly contact you?
My bad if you have some inside news you may have heard. TBH, I wouldn't be surprised at all if he chose to hang it up after this season. Also, I think it'd be really cool if he did if he was given the opportunity to be around the football complex to provide input and help with the transition. Not sure how that would work with the rules as far as coaching staff or advisors kind of thing.

Follow the Bluder model...after the season (preferably an AMAZING season), set someone on your staff up as the heir apparent, and ride off into the sunset.

We just need to take care of the "amazing season" part, and the rest will write itself.

Is it a given that KF will pick his successor?
If so. Why?
Did Hayden pick Ferentz?
Does that process work out well historically at other programs?

Did Hayden pick Ferentz?
He recommended him to the BOR after Stoopsy took the OK job but didn't have a part in the interviews or final decision. He obviously had some amount of influence. Bob Stoops was the preference of the committee.

Everyone always says Stoops was the one who got away and I don't disagree, but I don't know if he would've been able to do what he did at OK in Iowa. Switzer had that program rolling and there were a whole lot more resources and recruiting advantage at Oklahoma that Iowa never had.

IMO, there are way too many people everywhere that are ready for this all to end. Maybe I'm too realistic or maybe I'm "settling", but this is the 10th season in 11 year that Iowa has been ranked. If you count votes received, we've been ranked in the top 31 13 years in a row. Not sure how many schools can say that, but there isn't a season where we aren't at the very least competitive.

Iowa, Clemson, Ohio State, Georgia, and Alabama are the only teams in the last 10 years to win at least 8 games every season. Clemson is currently 3-5, so being the 4th wheel with OSU, Bama, and UGA is not a bad thing.

No need to bring facts and perspective to this convo...

@BigD read up.
