KF on the Paul Finebaum show

thanks for that link spliff- lol at host not pronouncing name right but that's ok- good interview

One of the callers said he didn't understand why Ferentz stayed at a nothing school like Iowa...I thought it was funny considering the notion that I personally believe that Iowa would have beaten Alabama last year. People making uninformed statements like that really **** me off when it is put out on the radio like that. Especially when the host agrees with that sentiment. The guy was a good interviewer but that part really got me thinking how the average SEC fan really has an over-inflated ego. They don't understand that Iowa would be good in the SEC too. Not just because of Ferentz either...it's not like Iowa is a bad program...maybe the caller confused us with another team in the state?

So Finebaum interviewed Zook right before Ferentz? That would be like eating hot dogs right before some filet migon.

When the guy called in talking about the flow of the interview and Finebaum commented
"Do you think it sounded that good because it came right after the Ron Zook interview?"

Too funny.

Ah, good ol souther folk. My God, it sounded like some of them had already hit the sauce pretty hard.

It's funny how the folks were calling in saying I can't understand why Kirk would still be at Iowa after all these years. HAHA

On another note at least they understand that he can do great things with less.

I listened to Zook's interview. He said the SEC is a better conference than the Big Ten.

Wow. Lots of raving over how great Ferentz is. Fun to hear.

Best comment: regarding how great of an interview KF gave- host wondered whether it was really that great, or if it just appeared that great because it followed Zook's crappy interview.

Good interview, but man those callers are really country. I don't know how they have internet radio, but still don't believe that dang ol' internet will ever catch on.

That was a gooooood listen Spliff - Thanks.

Ferentz was very well spoken. I think it was one of his best interviews.

Some of the things these callers said on the air, & they ? KF living in Iowa & coaching Iowa. One caller actually made a statement on air "If she's old enough to pee, she's old enough for me". WTF.

I think there were 8 or so callers & prob had 30 teeth between them all.

The ole Zookster loyal to the Big10 was on in front of Ferentz & flapping his jaw saying the SEC is a better conference than the Big10. Maybe in some ways, but coaches have to stick up for their conferences & point out the positives. Really, the one coach to ask (I realize he coached in both but) is Ron Zook. He couldn't succeed in the SEC & can't succeed in the Big10 & you are putting emphasis on his response. Yea right! What a joke.

Funny how they mentioned how different KF is interviewing with being so polite & answering every question with thoroughly & well spoken & saying how is so different than other coaches. They kind of nailed Zook saying how good Ferentz was following the Zookster, pertaining to the quality & how well spoken Ferentz is. I'm sure they could tell Zook was a used car salesman is what I took from it.

My favorite quote from callers afterward:

"Ferentz is like Urban Meyer, but more intelligent."

The comments about Iowa being a bad school for Ferentz are human nature. Of course if a coach does well at Iowa people assume that he would then do exponentially better at a school like Florida or Notre Dame, where he would have more geographic advantages. And maybe he would.

On the other hand, what they fail to realize is that Ferentz coming up as a coach would never have lasted at either of those places if he had some of the seasons there like he's had at Iowa. 1 and 10 or even 6 and 6 would get you fired at places like that. Just ask the last several coaches at Notre Dame.

Exactly what I thought. These people don't have a clue.

I like the caller that was talking about the cops having a road-block check point & stated he drove by & saw a car stopped with a 12 pk of PBR on the side of the road. Nice. Freakin hicks.

Iowa a bad school. They should check Ferentz's record against the SEC teams. Of course, there is that screw-job against Florida on 1-1-2005.

The first caller was very high on KF stating if Nick Saban ever left Alabama, that KF would absolutely be his first choice to replace him.

I had to quit listening. Some of those callers made me dumberer.

Coming from someone who was born in Alabama, I'm so thankful my mom ended up moving us to Iowa to get educated. I could of been one of those callers.

It makes you realize how fortunate we are to have Kirk Ferentz and for the fact that we had an administration that has been willing to stick with Coach Ferentz and his entire staff. These people showed a lot of love for a coach who they heard speak for 10 minutes...keep in mind everything Coach Ferentz does is classy...well thought out...and spot on.

Keep in mind...among the factors as to why Ferentz is still coaching at Iowa is the continuity of his staff. One of those qualities that makes Coach Ferentz who he is is that he is a loyal person and once he has brought in a coach and put his faith in him...he would not be quick to pull the trigger and get rid of them. There are places in the country where as soon as things go bad for a year or two they want to start calling for heads to roll...had our fans ever been successful in calling for the job of certain coordinators at different points (one name comes to mind in particular but don't pretend like that's the only coordinator who Iowa fans have called for on this staff)...we may have a different head coach right now.

I don't blame those Southern fans for questioning why Ferentz is still here...they don't fully understand the man or all of the reasons that he has to stay...sometimes I think Iowa fans aren't so different.
