Kelton Copeland on Oliver Martin

There is NO reason why Martin shouldn't be on the field more. He was out there more earlier in the year. Our receiving group is in the bottom 1/4 of the conference easily. What has anyone done ahead of him to warrant him not seeing playing time? Tracy drops balls every game, Ragaini dropped how many at NW, and its not like our receivers are lighting up opposing defenses every game either. They struggle to get open, so why isn't Martin getting his chance? Is he in the KF doghouse? Are they holding a grudge because he first went to Michigan? Either one is possible. There is no reason though why he should not be on the field more with the lackluster group we have out there now.

Brandon Smith, despite missing a game, ranks fifth among conference receivers in receptions per game. Ragaini ranks 10th. Smith and Smith-Marsette rank 9th and 10th, respectively, in receiving yards per game. Iowa ranks 4th in the conference in passing offense despite very little production from the tight ends.

Yeah but those are facts and don't fit people's agenda here so

Never let facts get in the way of a petulant rant. Here is how the top 4 WR for each team stack up:

Receptions combined for top 4 WR:
Indiana 125
Purdue 122
Iowa 111 (Smith, Smith, Tracy and Rigaini)
Minnesota 99
Michigan St. 93
Ohio St. 92

Total yards receiving for top 4 WR:
Indiana 1668
Minnesota 1619
Purdue 1549
Iowa 1460
Ohio St. 1278
Michigan St. 1267
Michigan 1259

It is mind boggling how little college football knowledge some of Da Haters have. I mean they really think that other teams in the B1G are lining up 5 super awesome WR who all have 10 receptions a game.

So based on these facts, the best receiving corps in the B1G clearly belongs to Indiana. With Purdue, Iowa, and Minnesota, in some order, next. Is that your assessment?

I don't have my own rankings, so I'm not arguing. Just wondering if these facts are truly conclusive.

You could absolutely make that argument.

Minnesota's WR core is probably the sole reason they're 8-0, because without Bateman or Johnson they lose their first 3 games.

Purdue has had one of the best passing attacks in the Big Ten for 3 years running, and continue to do so with guys like David Bell.

At the end of the day, production means more than hype or stars.

Just when The Hater was making sense. Iowa can't run well. That skews passing upwards.

@Caddy made the argument that the WR in front of Martin hasn't done anything to warrant Martin not playing. Well if he actually knew what he was talking about he would realize that Iowa's WR group is doing pretty dang good compared to other B1G WR groups. @Caddy says that Iowa's WR group is in the bottom 1/4 of the B1G EASILY. The actual reality is you couldn't even logically make the case that Iowa's WR are in the bottom 1/2 of the B1G, let alone the bottom 1/4.

I will guarantee you that @Caddy had no clue that Iowa's top 4 WR has that much production compared to other B1G teams. He will also come back at me ignoring the stats, and saying how our WR are clearly and obviously terrible.

We can't run. We throw a lot. Passing is our running game. We can't score tds. Oh ya we do well in the NFL. That is all.

That’s because kirk was pissed he was leaving early. He’s not a fan of this unless it’s his idea and it’s been discussed with him. You know..cause he’s the nfl guru and all. He loves holding sophomoric grudges on players he thinks have crossed him. It’s not a good look
Then why wouldn't Fant have expounded upon that whole topic by now? He's never said one cross word since and there's nothing holding him back now. He's drafted and cashing checks. It felt like there could have been something there but going off what the parties involved have all said who are we to try interjecting thoughts into their heads. By now it'd have came out and I haven't heard of anything.

Well as they say numbers don't lie but they don't tell the whole story either.

I don’t think KF has any “grudge,” against OM. If you think back, KF fired a couple of coaches because of the Eno Benjamin fiasco. Lost a couple of other guys as well because of it. That was when Martin was being recruited and probably had something to do with him going with Michigan.
Now if you read between the lines from Copeland’s presser, he said “he has no problems with OM “off the field”. So that tells me he has some issues “on the field!” Let’s just hope the kid has the light come on for him sooner than later. I want to see he on the field too, but I’d rather have him earn his reps instead of just putting him out there if only they need a warm body to use.

Iowa ranks 80th on yards per carry. 99th the past three games. 121st on the road.

Iowa can't really run.

I guess that shatters the argument that “there is NO reason” hunh?

Toren Young 5.8 YPC (9th in B1G)

Tyler Goodson 4.9 YPC (15th in B1G)

Mekhi Sargent 4.5 YPC
Does that mean Iowa “can’t run the ball so that’s why the passing stats are skewed”?

I mean, I know on this site it’s hard to tell when a win is a win, but is 4.5 YPC good unless it’s Iowa and then it’s bad? How does this work?

The concept that sacks count against rushing stats is lost on some folks. So, yes, for them, three RBs running for at least 4.5 YPC is viewed as Iowa being bad.

He also predicts we won't score in Madison, cause our backs are worse than they were two years ago, our O-line is worse, and we won't stop their running game cause our linebackers are worse.

He constantly refers to 2017 OSU as a fluke, then the 66 yard output in Madison the following week as standard procedure.

Well Iowa wins do bother @Caddy, heck if I remember right he was one that felt that Iowa's 2015 season was the worst thing that could happen. IE '15 meant Ferentz was there to stay.
