Kelton Copeland on Oliver Martin

How complicated can Iowa's pass scheme be? Get Martin some meaningful reps!

The fans don’t tell Brian Ferentz what to do. The fans wanted more Noah Fant. Benched. Fans want to see what OM can do? We know
How that ends.

I'm not into all the conspiracy theories at all, but I will say that my gut says there is more to the Martin story than meets the eye.

By all accounts, Martin is bright and studious, so it's hard to believe that he hasn't learned the system well enough to see more than two plays per game. Listening to Copeland, it almost seems like he's trying hard not to say something. If the issue is something more private, then that's perfectly appropriate.

I sincerely wonder if Oliver is going through some personal issues that may have prompted his decision to transfer in the first place, that were exacerbated by the process of acclimating after he got here. Perhaps some depression or something similar. It's all speculation, but, if that's the case, I really hope he can work through it. There's much more to life than football.

This is actually possible. We don’t know why he was granted the waiver.

Yeah, put him on the field, but there are good receivers in front of him that have been in the system. They are a known commodity. Oliver Martin is still learning. Next year will be his year.

My hope is KF or BF were honest with the kid before he transferred back. I would hope our coaches don't hold "grudges". For the first time in a long time we have a receiving corps that has athleticism and speed. Maybe it's possible we have better receivers than UM?

Nonsense. I played a lot of EA Sports NCAA 2006. It is simply a matter of moving a guy to that position on the depth chart and then playing. These coaches know nothing!

thanks for the detailed analysis. Now I will know who to believe about who should be playing. Not know nothing coaches, but another internet genius. (Sarcasm?)

Our receivers would be solid gold, with a QB who is accurate and experienced!

How about splitting time with Ragaini? Ragaini was pretty mediocre against NWestern; too many drops to count

I agree, I am not a big fan of Ragaini. He has screwed up one to many punt returns this year. I know he's a young player, but I hold my breath every time the other team punts to him. Don't see how Martin will play next year as well since all receivers will be back. I will laugh and be pissed if Oliver transfers elsewhere after this season.

The obsession with Oliver Martin has reached peak ridiculousness. The WR's aren't costing the team any games right now, that award belongs to the OL and QB. Just because OM was a 4 star recruit and a Michigan transfer doesn't mean he's the best WR on the team.
That’s not even the point but whatever

This reminds me of the time we had an NFL 1st round TE, better than any of our WRs, but he didn't play that much.
That’s because kirk was pissed he was leaving early. He’s not a fan of this unless it’s his idea and it’s been discussed with him. You know..cause he’s the nfl guru and all. He loves holding sophomoric grudges on players he thinks have crossed him. It’s not a good look

There is NO reason why Martin shouldn't be on the field more. He was out there more earlier in the year. Our receiving group is in the bottom 1/4 of the conference easily. What has anyone done ahead of him to warrant him not seeing playing time? Tracy drops balls every game, Ragaini dropped how many at NW, and its not like our receivers are lighting up opposing defenses every game either. They struggle to get open, so why isn't Martin getting his chance? Is he in the KF doghouse? Are they holding a grudge because he first went to Michigan? Either one is possible. There is no reason though why he should not be on the field more with the lackluster group we have out there now.
