Katenda and Olaseni

I still don't understand why some of you want Archie to move on. The kid showed spurts of talent mixed with raw stupidity from a basketball sense. If he has another year under his belt with some pretty damn good coaching then I see no reason why he couldn't have a break out year.

I for one didn't think the kid was going to ever see the floor. I also ate crow when he did see action and impressed me at times. I'm not saying he's going to become Acie Earl but I think he could surprise some next year.

Archie is a poor man's David Palmer. Palmer actually had a nice season dropping down a level. What if Fran, with his connections at lower levels, was able to find Archie a sweetheart deal at a way more desireable location than freezing-*** Iowa? What if Fran brought in both Katenda and Olaseni and told Archie the truth that they would definitely have his minutes, which any honest coach would have to say? Seriously guys, you act like this is some huge travesty. But coaches who successfully turn teams around do it.

That being said, Fran is going to use his scholarships wisely. If he sees a guy like Hubbard to be his best option for a scoring guard of the 2011-2012 recruits he has a shot at, he will take it. If he thinks he has a very legitimate shot at a better 2012 kid, he might wait. He has five slots to fill between now and November. He has one verbal. He will figure out his best chance to fill those slots and go with it.

Of course, this discussion could be moot, based on Katenda's decision. Because face it, that would be the first one of these types of battles Fran has won at Iowa.

If you want to win you have to play the game. The writing is on the wall if Fran can sign a player he wants. This is far different than running a kid off. He has/or should have his degree. He came in with 2 years of juco school and Iowa paid the ticket for 2 more years. Fran didn't choose to redshirt him his first year here. If another player is signed and he wants to stick around, then great. I've got a feeling the 3 minutes a game and embarrassment of airballing multiply free throws will be enough for him to leave on his own graces.

LOL. Yeah, Archie's going to be heart broken when Fran tells him, "Devon, I'm not going to give you a scholarship to play 3 minutes a game next year."

you don't get it do you? what if basketball has been his dream and playing at this level a goal of his since he was a little kid?

i couldn't agree more with shane on this. doing the right thing is doing the right thing. and i hope fran will take the high road on this.

lastly, coach lick obviously sucked at player development, so i'm hoping fran and the staff can turn archie from a spot player to a roll player.

Fran would make a mistake telling Archie to leave. It would show recruits he doesn't care about his players. And after losing players every year lately I figured some fans wouldn't want to kick guys off for an incoming guy. Its just a dumb idea and it won't happen.

After Lick's problems with player retention...I believe it would be unwise for Fran to run ANYBODY off. I think Archie will be here next year and I think we will see him improve greatly. But yes, he has shot 2 of the worst free throws I've ever seen.

Archie bring a lot to the defensive side.

So funny, he had one good game. Seriously, poor man's Palmer, but Plamer had 2 good games.

If Fran was able to sign these two guys, Archie would NEVER see the court. You take next year to get these guys playing experience.

Without commenting on whether or not he should do it, letting a player who has a degree know that he won't get any playing time next year if he sticks around is hardly the same thing as oversigning. The kids victimized by oversigning are kicked out long before they've gotten a degree.

And the football team does this all the time. I don't really have a problem with it if the kid has his degree. Otherwise, you're basically kicking him out of school by taking away his scholarship.

If we can get both, 'the talk' needs to be had with Archie.

I guess I don't see why talking to Archie about "the Birds and the Bees" has anything to do with Archie.

But seriously, If they do get both, he should encourage Archie to look at smaller schools with grad programs (Opposite of ISU's Jake Anderson)

Ditto, Ditto, and Ditto on three of four of the last four post. This is a college game not the NBA where you trade and dump players.

Big time college basketball is a lot more like the NBA than you seem to want to think. I suggest you remove the wool from your eyes.

Yah sure lets go trade an Iowa player where we are deep in that position for a guard at another school that is deep in the guard position. If it don't work out we will just put the kid on waivers.

Carr, I was agreeing with the last few post but I do not agree with quote that Schneid refered to nor do I think he should be asked to leave. Another point also about the NBA is that there is no loyalty there. It's all about money and winning and if the University of Iowa goes into that slum then they will not have my support any longer. I live down here in Atlanta in the corrupt SEC and I think that most of the Big Ten teams (especially Iowa) are above the fray and the sewer the SEC is in and it's fans. I think better of the Iowa coaching staff and the Iowa athletic department then that. If Archie wants to stay and play then let him stay and play. As if what I think or say has any bearing on any decisions that Fran makes.

Oklahoma had a big man, Richard Peters 6' 10" PF decommit today...depending upon Olesani's relationship with Lon, this may not help our effort to land him.

I like how some get in an uproar over the SEC oversigning in football, but then others want that exact thing to happen with Iowa basketball...not to mention having no problem with booting a kid because you don't know him and what the hell, right!?!?..."he ain't my kid and he's not good enough for my taste...f*ck him!"...but hell yeah, if he was great, he could beat his girlfriend and get caught selling heroine to highschool kids and he'd "deserve a second chance, cuz we ALL make 'mistakes', right!?!?"...

I guess what I'm trying to say is, F it...keep Archie...and F some of you who don't give a crap about the kids on the team you supposedly love...

Holy Crap, nice overreaction!! Not even in the same league as the SEC and oversigning. In my scenario, Archie will have his degree from a Big 10 institution and it would not have cost him a dime. SEC football teams kick kids to the curb that havent produced or get injured that are still underclassmen and will have to use other resources to obtain their degree.

Someone mentioned it earlier. The dude will have his degree in May. Not giving him a scholarship next year is not a big deal. He came to Iowa for two years to get his degree. He did that. We move on. I don't see the big deal here. He obviously isn't going to make the next level so he needs to move on and get a j-o-b.

Everyone on here wants the Iowa program to turn around yet you want to do something stupid by wasting a scholarship on him next year when he will hardly contribute. You can't have it both ways fellas.

Guess we don't need to worry about having the talk with Archie to get these two in the fold now. Entirely possible now to get Katenda, Olaseni and a PG (Eli Carter, please).

DO IT FRAN!!!
