This works with paying players? Are there still going to be academic requirements to remain eligible to play?

Let’s say you’re paying someone a million dollars to play but they don’t keep up their grades and can’t play. Do they forfeit all their money back to the University’s?

Has anyone heard anything on this aspect and how it will work?

There has been no changes to the NCAA academic requirements or standards for eligibility that I know of. As far as I know, these kids have to keep going to class and maintain a minimum GPA to stay eligible.

Its really just the payment stuff that has changed. Technically, if a booster gave a kid a $1,000 and expressly stated that he was paying him just to play football at Iowa, and not going through the fascade of NIL, the NCAA could still enforce its rules against pay for play, but I think the NCAA has given up on about everything except trying to keep these players actual students for a bit longer.
