Just wondering how………

This works with paying players? Are there still going to be academic requirements to remain eligible to play?

Let’s say you’re paying someone a million dollars to play but they don’t keep up their grades and can’t play. Do they forfeit all their money back to the University’s?

Has anyone heard anything on this aspect and how it will work?

There has been no changes to the NCAA academic requirements or standards for eligibility that I know of. As far as I know, these kids have to keep going to class and maintain a minimum GPA to stay eligible.

Its really just the payment stuff that has changed. Technically, if a booster gave a kid a $1,000 and expressly stated that he was paying him just to play football at Iowa, and not going through the fascade of NIL, the NCAA could still enforce its rules against pay for play, but I think the NCAA has given up on about everything except trying to keep these players actual students for a bit longer.

When is the last time you heard of a player ineligible for academic reason. Used to be often but don’t hear it much anymore

Been a long time since I've heard of anyone getting dinged for it... I don't think kids magically got better about being students either...

As far as the NIL contracts and how they read I'm not sure. Maybe they have eligibility requirement clauses? Tossing out 6 figures plus to kids to be sidelined due to academics would be quite the kick to the nuts. Hard to say how that works but those rich people who are paying that $ out I would think would be covering their asses to some extent. But who knows

I have to believe the collectives are smart enough to have eligibility clauses. I would also have performance and participation clauses. I would love to see bonuses for playing on bowl games.
