Jurors hear starkly different portrayals in opening statements of Jane Meyer's case against Iowa

Some things are not brought out in the trial because it would make the Athletic department look bad. Corrective measures have been put into place so they should not occur again. They are well known by those within or closely associated with the Athletic department.

For example...

I'm telling you, gays and lesbians have it made. I wish I was a lesbian...well, I kind of am, although i have a penis as a key differentiator. Police can shoot an unarmed man without fear of prosecution, and you can't reassign a lesbian for being insubordinate. Barta should have claimed she was on PCP or something...then you can do whatever you want. What kind of world do we live in?

Were the things that were known but not brought forward worth $1.4m?

They must have been things that might have helped the case, but weaken the program (in other words, made Barta look even worse).

If Barta had shown up to court looking like Richard Simmons (dolphin shorts and tank top) and sporting a 70s porn stache, he might have had a shot. The minute they saw the wing tips, he was done.

When I was a student at Iowa (Tom Brands was in my class) but it was a physical ed. class. Our teacher was a lesbian and she had a huge chip on her shoulder. I recall her never smiling, she seemed angry or unhappy all the time. Personality she lacked, big time. She was me least favorite of my teachers while a student at Iowa.
