IMO, in cases like Willies, and possibly Juan, it has very little to do with KF, and more to do with the young man. I have no doubt there's a "doghouse" for most coaches, I don't believe KF's comes in to play as much as many believe.
I very well could be wrong. We all know KF is stubborn.
Second best?Yes, there are damaged young men who come into the program IMO. They need hand-holding and maturity lessons from a mentor. I'm under no illusions how hard it is to be a player at a big time program. Iowa is a player in the second best conference in the FBS. Iowa is big time and we have the facilities and trophies to prove it. Lot's of pressure on young men. Lot's of traps and mental games waiting for kids like Coker; Wegher; Willies; etc. Girls; drugs; hormones; injuries; academics; peer-pressure; athletics; big-man-on-campus-syndrome; etc. Even if you have Canzeri-level talent you may never be a starter. It's a hard road. And if you need baby-sitting . . . well, good luck.
Second best?
I'm going to get crucified for this, but I hope we still keep a place open for him if he ultimately wants to come to Iowa. I'm normally not this forgiving to "dumbassery", but in this case I'm not going to judge his circumstances. Sounds like the kid has had it rough, and the environment at Iowa might be just what he needs.
Let it go.At least somebody does!
Let it go.
Good job.Let what go?
Good job.
Maybe KF has seen this before and what someone like Juan can do to a team. Just an opinion.I wonder what kind of issues there might be involved for him to commit/decommit like this though? I mean lots of kids have broken homes and tough upbringings. I wonder what percentage of black kids even have a dad in the picture step or otherwise. And the ones that do are they even a good influence? So beyond some of the stereo type type of issues there are I wonder what his circumstances are. That's where the HS coaches can really make a difference. I've seen it before with family I have that's coached at a city school in Des Moines for years. He's literally taken his time and money to pick kids up from home to bring them to and from school/practice to make sure they attend. Not just the stud RB either. He's done that for years for several kids. It's sad but he's had to help make sure they had food to eat and shoes to wear. The littlest of things people take for granted sometimes are the most important to a kid at that age. He may have a tough time comprehending what D1 football can mean to him. I have no idea. But I feel for him if his head is just in a different place than most of us think it may be.
And I agree KF today isn't the same coach he was 15-18 yrs ago. Being established is way different than when your starting out a program. He may or may not want to take on a kid in a tough situation like his just because he doesn't have to. Maybe Juan don't want to either. Who knows? But if for some reason at the end of the day (Feb 2nd) He would like to sign with Iowa I say why not try and help him.
Yeah what we don't know is just that. There's no way of ever really finding out unless you get honest answers from those involved. Usually that stuff stays in house and we just guess/assume.Maybe KF has seen this before and what someone like Juan can do to a team. Just an opinion.
Not only No, but HELL NO. We do not want this drama on a team.
From what I heard, his high school coach at North Fayette Valley did all he could to help him, including having Juan move in with him. I can see why a kid like him might have a tough time fitting in in a small Iowa town though.I'm surprised somebody hasn't stepped up to help this kid. He has talent, and this may be the best opportunity he has to advance his life. He needs a mentor
