Jon....you have some explaining to do

The issue isn't losing games alone...

It is that KF ball is most often boring, futile, predictable, inept, unwatchable, frustrating and usually reminds me of an inexperienced group of junior high players and coaches trying to learn the trade from scratch...

It is mind boggling...two weeks of prep...for that pathetic effort? Really?

I am amazed that the big money movers that support the coaches and AD tolerate it...I don't get it.

At least the schedule is favorable next year. ISU, Wisconsin, Nebraska, NW at home...Penn State on the road.

Iowa should be able to sneeze and win 8 games. Which means they'll either win 10 games or 6 games because nothing makes sense

.....and that's after a F'ing bye week!

The bye week thing drives me crazy. Historically Iowa plays well after a bye, at least competitive, but this year and last year they've looked completely lost coming off a bye.

Also, how do you lose two of your top defensive players coming off a bye week?

here's the TLDR, the take home point:
We're better off the last 19 years than most schools in the nation.
We all hope for the best, but at least we don't have to expect the worst (Kansas).
If you're content with simply being better than Kansas, you'll probably always be happy w/ Iowa football. Congrats on a bright future.

As far as the quality of the last 19 years (actually you'd likely start w/ 2001, so 16 years), yes most would agree those numbers are solid. But, the more you start to look at current / recent numbers, the "better than most schools in the nation" summation is less and less true. Only 3 top-25 finishes in the last 12 years (likely 3 in 13 after this year). Only 1 in the last 7 years (1 in 8 after this year).

As far as the outlook goes after this year? Yes, there's a lot of youth on offense, so there's reason for optimism there. But we know the ceiling for the O under KF is to be average. And, the heart of a Parker defense has always been the LB's. Next year will see 3 guys there that not only are new starters, but have barely played, thanks to a lack of substituting. So the D will likely regress. Overall it'll probably be another year with few if any quality wins. The usual 6 - 8 wins against the weak teams. Yippee, KF football is here to stay!

I thought I saw a stat that said Iowa is 2-8 the last 10 games following a bye week.

I doubt that's right. I know in 2014 Iowa had 2 bye weeks and went 2-0 beating Indiana by double digits and crushing NW. In 2015 they beat Maryland by 16 coming off the bye week.

Again, I find it very hard to believe that for the amount of money the University of Iowa is willing to pay it's football coach, that we can't do any better than this. I know the 1 year was really good, but I would expect to be in the top 25 a little more often.

Still tattling at your age? Tsk, tsk.

Ya I need to grow up. Ask my kids and wife.

C'mon man, is that really what you think I was saying? Just in case it is, let me clarify:

Kansas is not the only example of schools that we don't ever have to worry about being like under KF. Can we do better? Sure? Who can we get to do better? I don't know right off the bat. But I'm also not going to call for KF's head while he delivers average-to-better-than-average year in and year out until we've got the next coach lined up. I guess you can color me risk-averse, and you'd likely be correct, but I'm not really willing to trade guaranteed .500+ ball for a 50/50 shot at 9-3 or 3-9. I guess I'd rather ride the horse I know can get me over that river than change to an unknown horse that I don't know whether it will sink and drown me or carry me off to the promised land unless I have to.

Who knows. Well, I know Jewell's was stated to go back from the Illinois game.

---------I think they have some good playmakers on campus, right now.

Rinse and repeat. Seriously Jon.....if he isn't a lazy and lousy recruiter, then why would you pick a team that was returning 15 starters to go 6-6? And don't tell me solely because of QB....it's common place now for first year starters to compete for National Championships.....at real programs anyway. BTW, I took today off just to do some soul searching....ok, I'm done....Ferments still needs to go!!! Go in peace brother;)
