Jon....you have some explaining to do

Agree about the defense overall, but they did give up the long pass play in OT. Defense has not been money we have needed them to be this year....really most years in clutch situations. But, Iowa offense certainly lost us the game.

What long pass play in OT. It was a short 5 yard past the LOS pass where they rubbed off Bower or someone and the guy broke two tackles.

Third and long and it might be ok to to play man with your corners but our lbkrs and safeties need to be in zone to pick up those crossing routes.

I think NOrm and PHil Parker's defensive alignments have given up way too many big plays on 3rd and long because they dont try to blitz and pressure.

Good God, Haymaker, STFU. Please ATTEMPT to stay relevant and cogent. Your posts reek of such monumental idiocy, even a "stupid" loss like today is transcended to the absurd with your presence.

I'll make a deal with you: You stop sucking so bad, and I'll stop wishing you never existed.

Rob, Typical Bob Post.

As a fan of your podcasts, you TOTALLY lost my support this past week when you said that Brain has done a very good job so far as OC.....somehow, you must have stricken a couple turd games from the equation. Last year, you did a 180 on us when you all of a sudden pulled some kind of higher than thou act in proclaiming how immature you had been in past criticisms....thus, giving those who still criticize a very underhanded finger wagging and dressing down. Well today, hell actually froze over. Today, our most positive, glass always half full, Hawk fan at our Dallas area Hawkeye watching club yelled out loud when Brain called the 3rd and 7 running play in OT. Brain is as over matched as his stubborn dim witted father Dirk. I am starting to actually wonder if maybe you are on the take....please tell me how you could possibly be in defense of Brain, and why Dirk should not be sent packing sooner than later. And don't give me the buyout...hawk fans are not to blame for that F'd up deal. The ONLY saving grace is that Brain and Dirk are tied at the hip....can we just F'n get rid of EVERYTHING Ferments and move the F on with this sorry ass....occasional tease....of a program. It is one big joke!!!!

LMAO Your a joke and how your still allowed to post on this site is actually astonishing to me...

I agree with Jon that this will end up being a 6-6 team most likely (maybe 7 wins with an upset). I also think most, myself included, thought that would be the win total this year. But, Iowa sure looked like they were capable of more after the Iowa St and Penn St games. I think they were capable of more, but not so much now.

But I think offensive coaching is taking an 8 or 9 win team and making it a 6 win team. It is a team loss today, but offensive game planning has been a big factor in at least 2 of our losses.....you could argue all 3 with the safety against PSU.

Iowa could very well be unbeaten right now as crazy as that sounds.

But, this is classic Kirk Ferentz. They play up and down to their competition most years and this is the type of game we typically lose to a lesser opponent. It is frustrating and it gets old. I think that is Playmaker's point.
This is a 5 win team. There’s no way in hell we beat OSU, Wisconsin, or Nebraska, and this team will drop one to either Minnesota or Purdue. Write it down.

Can teams still get a bowl game with 5 wins like Nebby did?

Why are you taking what I say so personally? It's just a message board....chill.

And, isn't it embarrassing how easy it was fro me to draw you offside? 1st down and 5 Playmaker

We needed a win today. It's hard to see 2-3 more wins unless we see something on offense different than today.

We just hit the point we get to just about every season other than when we go on an unexpected run like in 15. You enter the season with hope and look for encouraging signs like with the changes in offensive staff like we had this year. Then you come to the realization that expecting anything different becomes futile and watching the rest of the games play out becomes a grind. If Jon really said this season will establish the foundation I would ask the foundation for what? We can't win consistently relying on the defense now and that unit takes a major hit with the loss of the three senior linebackers who provide the core of what we do on defense. Programs like Iowa State and Minnesota will soon pass us by while we have to sit and continue to hope that things will get better.

Should have clarified myself there giving up yards after catch to hear goal line.

Iowa St. already has....they have MANY more players at the skill positions than we do. It's a miracle that we beat them this season.

The long term worry will/should be our ability to land recruits from the state/midwest particularly on the offensive side of the ball with stronger competition and other/more dynamic play calling options.

Iowa’s players motivate themselves for marquee games. But Kirk Ferentz is paid to motivate them for all games. Iowa comes out sleepy, distracted, still reveling in some earlier performance; they can’t even participate in bowl festivities, lest they lose concentration and embarrass themselves yet again. Ferentz' teams are mentally tentative as Ferentz envisions himself a suave, emotionless NFL corporate coach too pompous to motivate a college team. The state deserves better than 1 good season and 4 basement, rebuilding seasons. Get a coach who wants to coach college players!

I hate to say it but i dont think we beat them if we line up tommorrow. Or next week. Or next month. Maybe next year.
You know Campbell is a talented coach but he aint perfect. He had fricking Joe Montana riding the bench until recently.
He must be a real crappy practice player.
