-----No matter what happens, I'm sure he'll let us know that he is smarter than the rest of us.

In a smarmy yet clever kind of manner.....as he looks down on all of us from high atop Mt. Olympus.

Here is what is going to happen. Iowa either wins Big next year and the following year, meaning 20 or more wins combined in the two years, and then Brian will be the next head coach. Or they fall short of that, and he won't. So regardless of your opinion on that next coach, I think we'll all find out one way or another within the next 24 months. That should make everybody happy

That's what irks the heck out of me. The position that was given to Brian by his daddy is not some beginners job. It is one of the most important with the team and we have to just accept that we have to sit around for 2-3 maybe four years to see if he turns out to be good as the OC.

The execution argument can really be used in any loss ever. I get it that we didn't execute but with only 40 yards and 0/12 on 3rd down you have to question the play calling a little. Nevertheless, the hawks have exceeded expectations this year and gave us the best win of my lifetime last week. It was a very frustrating game but I'm flushing it and moving on. As long as we beat Nebraska the season is a success overall in my mind.

In 2012 an offense of coordinator that had Decades of experience, won national championships, LED one of the worst Iowa offense of attacks in school history. 5 years later he did the same. Are we to expect that Brian Ferentz, who was considered for the New England Patriots offense of coordinator position, was not going to have some struggles at some time? It would be silly to think that. Also one week ago it was one of the most amazing offencive surgical destruction pieces I've ever seen. A lot of an offense of coordinator success or lack thereof, has to do with execution. Last week they executed at a record level. This week not so much. 5 or 6 drops today? It happens

Because when you don't make the makeable place, it has a negative effect on what your offense does. It stops drives. Today there were at least 10 to 15 plays Iowa didn't get, that they would have gotten had they executed, and dropped passes. So yes it can be used at all times, because it's the most important component, to an offense.

I'll vouch for Jon's thick skin although I disagree with anyone trying to justify 66yards of offense. About 15 years ago or so I went on Jon's board and Tom Kakert's. I called them both out about a similar issue which was whether or not the knew anything about Marcus Pascal being hurt or not. Neither site (scout nor hawkeye report) would devulge the super secrect details. I think I got pretty nasty. Kakert banned me. Jon, nothing. Jon's got my support forever. He wears big boy pants unlike some other folks.

With that said...Jon...66yards?

If I have come off as if I am excusing 66 yards, that is not my intent. I have just looked at this season as sort of a preseason developmental year for next year, since last season ended. By and large, it has gone according to expectations for me, with last week being a nice bonus that I never thought possible. Doesn't mean I will always get them right...because I won't. I think I had 10-2 last year....12-0 in 2010...etc.

Like you I had us 6-6 this year so we're still ahead of that. But like Charlie Brown/Lucy, I keep hoping and praying we put an agressive gameplan together. Running a 185lb back into the line 25times a game along with 3 yard passes where the receiver is actually running backwards when he makes the catch is something i've grown to hate watching over the years. I thought the Ohio State game was the best called game of any game I'd seen under Kirk. It reminded me of a game i've been telling my 11 year old about for years now. 1990 at #5 Illinois. I've been waiting for this kind of gameplan for years and thought we'd realized what needs to happen. TE's running seems. Fullbacks in the flat. Throwing to Wadley on safety valves and mixing in a few deep shots. Passing to set up the run.

Alas, ole Charlie B was fooled again.

That said, it is what it is and with a weaker schedule we should be better next year. I don't expect the gameplan to improve but we should be able to do more of what we want to do which is short passing and 200 yards rushing. 200 yards passing 200 yards rushing. No turnovers. Bend don't break defense.
Next year i'll say 8-4. I think losing the 3 senior LB's will hurt more than you think.

And one more thing...Why isn't Epenesa playing more freaking downs? Go back and look at those picks and see how many involved pressures by AJ.

i mean...how the hello do you make OSU look like a high school team and then 7 days later look like a JR High school team? i mean....how?
By never changing anything. Teams do look at film and when it comes to Ferentz they only have to look st 10 or do minutes. When we changed up against OSU we win. When we go back to idiosy of Fetentz FB we get embarrassed.

Was driving and didn't get to watch all the same...but did stop at Apple-bee's with family near Wisconsin Dells, wearing a bold Iowa hoodie...to eat...watching Iowa...place filled with Badgers...hideous, embarrassing, futile, Kirk ball...101

Zero effort, zero preparation....grade school level...

No one said anything to me...think they knew how pathetic is was for an Iowa fan.

Laughable...

I shiver at the thought of BF as Iowa's head coach. As shown today he has no clue on what it takes to win at this level. If it happens we all will look back on the mediocrity of the KF years as the golden era.
