John Lickliter's 3 Ball (and other unnecessary gripes)

It is easy to get frustrated after a game like Saturday. Except for Fuller in the second half, no one played worth a damn!!!

Complain about Little Lick's shooting but Gatens wasnt doing any better. I think they were both 1 for 6 from 3 point land. I thought Cole was one starter who lost most minutes. I didnt check to see how much Payne played but thought it was close to the usual.

What this team lacks is an on court leader. None of players seems to take charge when things going bad. I only see games on TV, not in person, but would like to see someone step up.

In past, I felt coaches werent coaching during game but recently, I have seen more discussions between players and coaches. Not sure that is a change or not but it seemed good against PSU and Indiana :) Again, that is from what I see on TV and obviously TV doesnt show that much of bench discussions.

Storm - a 30 foot 3 pointer is available at any time in the shot clock. It is a low % shot to start with. On top of it, I believe he was fairly contested on the shot. Had he made it, it would have still been a poor-judgment shot.

Pistons - given Iowa's circumstances, he is the best available player. Of course he isn't a D1 player. That being said, he is not as bad as people like to make him out to be. He had a great move with the ball v. Indiana (or OSU, now that I think of it) that schooled their best player - that hesitation move for two. That was a thing of beauty, made more beautiful given the person who executed it and who it was executed against.

Funny the quick change of tone after one bad loss, on the road.

A 30 footer is RARELY available with this team and on the rare occasion that it is then the ball needs to be in the air heading towards the goal.

A made shot is never a poor-judgment shot because it went in. Last time I checked the goal was to score more points than your opponent, not less. Sure we can cringe at some shots and there are certainly some that shouldn't be taken but an open shot in this offense is hard to come by so it needs to be taken.

The tone hasn't changed, some of the blinders have been taken off and their kool-aid is almost gone.

Lil' Brick shouldn't be playing in a D1 game, period. That is 100% on the coaches for even being in this situation. Remember the transfers anyone? We lost 3 guards and 1 PF/C over the last two years. In fact, we lost two PGs, 1 Wing and 1 PF/C come to think of it. The only player of those 4 that transferred that has any reasonable excuse for transferring is Kelly, the other 3 are placed squarely on Lick's shoulders.

Depth and experience are killing this team, this program. We can no longer blame alford (who I despise) for the problems of 09-10.

I said it in another thread and I will say it again - No way Lil Lick plays more than 7 minutes in the next game.
