Jim Walden Calls Out Jon Miller

Walden's criticism does make sense. I mean, Lickliter and McDermott have better winning percentages than Walden so from his perspective they are successful and there is no need to criticize successful coaches.

Either that, or he'd like them to stick around another year or two so his coaching success is eased out of the consciousness of Iowans to be replaced by Lickliter's.

Jim Walden has a place in his heart for coaches that underperform.

Give him credit, he had a winning record in almost 25% of his 17 seasons... almost.

Mabey if Lickliter gets fired he can also get his own radio gig and spend his whole show making excuses for other p--s poor coaches. Walden would be a great mentor for him to copy.

It amazes me that columnists and pundits can criticize the President of the United States (from either party) over the most minute policy decisions and nobody says a word. Yet if you dare criticize a coach, someone will say "you never played the game".

I come from a coaching family so I understand how it feels to hear a family member criticized. For Jim Walden to break out this argument is asinine. It's not because Walden was a failure and a hack. It's because the performance of the basketball teams at Iowa and ISU warrant the criticism.

Walden wasn't criticizing the coaches, he was criticizing the media.

Has Jim Zabel commented on the Lickliter situation? He has in the past defended Hawkeye coaches in just about every situation.

Not living in Iowa, I don't get to hear the Jim and Jim show and other then the call in show with Jon after football games, I don't get to hear Jim Zabel.

I'm just curious if he's said anything. If not, I think his silence would be pretty telling.

I didn't put that very well. What I meant to convey is that Walden has no business criticizing the media for having an opinion on this issue.
