Jennings, Larson Depart Iowa Women’s Basketball
Point guard, forward leave to pursue opportunities closer to home

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- University of Iowa guard Whitney Jennings and forward Tagyn Larson have decided to leave the women’s basketball program to pursue playing opportunities closer to home. Jennings has two years of eligibility remaining, while Larson has three.

“We appreciate the contributions Whitney and Tagyn made on and off the court in their Hawkeye careers,â€￾ UI head coach Lisa Bluder said. “We wish them nothing but the best as they pursue opportunities closer to home.â€￾

The Logansport, Indiana, native played in all 67 games of her career with 62 starts. Jennings recorded 626 points, 191 assists, 169 rebounds, and 77 steals in two seasons.

“I want to thank coach Bluder and Iowa women’s basketball for the tremendous opportunity, but have decided to continue my academic and basketball career at a place closer to home,â€￾ Jennings said.

Larson, a Sioux Falls, South Dakota, native, appeared in five games for the Hawkeyes as a freshman.

“I’ve appreciated what the coaches have done for me and the opportunities that have been given to me at Iowa,â€￾ Larson said. “I’ve made lifelong friends in my teammates and it’s been an experience I’m going to treasure forever. Looking ahead, I’m excited to start at a new school and have the best years I can there.â€￾

I'm gonna get flamed for this being sexist, but this kind of thing happens a ton in women's NCAA sports. Homesickness run rampant for some reason. Deb Remmerde is a well known example from 2003.

She's the one from Rock Valley known for 133 free throws in a row.

Where did she go or what was her story?

Larson will probably end up at South Dakota State like her brother did after his stint at Florida.

SDSU is a solid program. Tested Stanford down to the wire for a trip to the Sweet 16 this year.

Where did she go or what was her story?

She's from the same place I am, small towns where a lot of people literally never leave the Iowa/SD area (I'm being serious), and when she got recruited and went to Iowa she absolutely could not handle being away from home. She transferred to a little NAIA school in Orange City.

WHAT??????????? Whiteny Jennings? She is uber talented and my favorite player.

Damnit. This sux!

Dang! Sure am going to miss Whitney. Fabulous player and I thank her for being a Hawkeye. I believe she had real good things in her future as a Hawkeye. I wish nothing but the best to you Whitney.

 Look at these stats from her 4 years at Northwestern College, where she is apparently an asst coach now.
