Jeff Brohm

The Big Ten West simply needs to be better and raise its profile not be in competition with the ACC Coastal for worst P5 division. We don't know that Wisconsin will rebound next year or if Nebraska will ascend. Who knows what happens at Illinois or Minnesota? Losing good coaches like Brohm is not good for the league or the division.

B1G west just needs a dominate champion. Wisconsin has done well for themselves dominating a weak west division. We really just need that to be Iowa instead. I feel bad for Purdue, but overall am happy to see Brohm leave Purdue. We really don't need decrepit programs rising up to sink our seasons.

OU and UGA? No. Both of those programs had 1-2 years of irrelevance (ie 9-3 by their standards) ..
Who do you trust more, Kirk in righting the ship, or Barta in full control of hiring a successor?
Actually, UGA had 1 year like that, OU none (#3 under Stoops followed by last year's #3 under Riley). And, even if they did that still compares to Dabo and Saban- Dabo didn't get going until year 3.

As for Iowa's options, I don't like either! But, GB could get lucky. KF is not gonna suddenly change.

They also ran a 3-4 defense where they alternated the LB who would rush and our line was more lost than Helen Keller in an empty forest trying to block it. It was really good coaching.
So simple and effective, but that's a scheme I would use, and I'm not exactly a football savant.

IIRC, Purdue beat Iowa last year on 2 plays where they exploited the weakest corner in man coverage. They also ran a 3-4 defense where they alternated the LB who would rush and our line was more lost than Helen Keller in an empty forest trying to block it. It was really good coaching.

OK4P you may not remember my absolute meltdown on this board last year after KF gave Purdue the wind to start the 2nd half of last years game. Remember PU had the choice at the beginning of the 2nd half even though Iowa won the pregame coin toss. So KF also gives them the wind as they are receiving the ball which lets them maximize their time with the ball and the wind.

I immediately told many around us in the stands that we could easily be behind by 2TDs by the end of the 3rd qtr. Everyone scoffed at me, then we were behind by 14 then quickly 17 points, and those people in the stands realized what a stupid mistake KF did as well as Parker did for not covering up our weakest corner. You dont give them the wind and the ball, you take the wind, hope to pin them down, get the ball with the short field and score, then rinse and repeat a couple more times.

Then hopefully you can use up clock in the 4th qtr while you and the hawks are protecting you own bit lead.

Yes you are right that PU came out throwing in the 3 but much of the issue is with the coaches

It was a really strong wind last year and I remember a game not long ago when the bears were playing in Illinois' stadium while Soldier field was being remodeled or getting new turf. The game went into OT and I think it was Lovie Smith decided to kick with the wind behind his back, which if it backfired would hold him up to ridicule.

Well the bears had a good D, they stopped the opponent, got great field position with the wind and scored to win the game.

I have been to a couple of games in Champagne or Champaign and it is a wind tunnel like Jack Trice stadium is or used to be.

See, this is really the issue right here. Illinois is a prime example of a horrible AD with a long tenure completely destroying their athletics. Illinois used to be a top basketball school, like top 10 once every 3 years and usually top 25 8 out of 10 years at least. And their football team was pretty damned good, too. Then, Ron Guenther took over. He did hire Bill Self and that worked out great, but every other hire in FB and BB was a disaster. Every single one of them. And their non-revenue sports are pretty much as bad as Iowa's. They are closer to Chicago than Iowa and should be good more often than not in everything. Honestly, there is no reason they aren't just a slight cut behind OSU, UM and PSU level in football based on state population and their destination status as the flagship school. But their programs are destroyed.

So you really hit the nail on the head with this one. It's really hard to dig out of the hole one idiot vested with power can create.

I think in context of the post I was replying to, that was my point. Purdue clearly saw something at halftime and went right at it on two consecutive drives and connected for two, quick, long TDs. And it was pure coaching. Which is why I hope Brohm leaves.

I wonder if Brohm would come to Iowa in a few years, the offense might be exciting

Iowa vs. BIG West since 2015:

2015 6-0
2016 4-2
2017 3-3
2018 1-3

I see a pattern :)

That is bad especially in '16 and '17 when we had Wadley but didnt use him all that well. The hawks almost beat PSU and did beat Mich and crushed OSU but we couldnt beat jNW for the last 3 years.

Very bad.

B1G West confirmed toughest conference in college football? /s

Lon Kruger was a pretty good hire. They've had 2 bad AD s since Guenther. Hard to tell the direction IL BB will go. There always has been a disconnect between Chicago and IL. Lute and HF did well in Chicago.

There is a growing disconnect between younger generations and college sports. If your school became weak during this disconnect it will be almost impossible to get it back as the audience is already shrinking.

No, the idea is to win against strong teams in what would be a strong division, PAL. Wanting all the other teams in the West to suck is flawed logic, at best, PAL. Iowa needed to go 13-0 in '15 to make the playoff with a soft schedule.

BTW, I deleted your Obama post in another thread. I see that political shit again and you're gone.
LMAO! You are talking about NATIONAL TITLES??? Please! With 2 star recruits and marginal coaching!!
Listen, with 9-game schedule plus Campbell being locked up forever at ISU, wins are VERY tough to come by with KF at helm.
