Jeff Brinson Leaving Iowa

Another transfer? Ferentz has got to go!

/sarcasm

Good luck to JB - this is one transfer that I see as perfectly justified. Too much talent to waste on the sidelines.

LOL and the sad part is Lick still may have more transfers than kirk.

actually i think the one RB that could benefit the most from this transfer is brad rogers, this could create some special teams play for him as well as being only an injury or 2 from getting a couple carries in a game, not to mention with robinson and hampton being out in the spring, he as a great opportunity to showcase himself going into fall camp

Yea I'm sorry he's leaving but I figured he'd be gone.Last year would of been his best year to show us something but the injury bug wouldn't leave him alone.Good luck

Florida, Miami, and FSU are all probably stacked.....Central and South Florida might have opportunities for him to break into the line-up. I hate to see 220 lbs.+ backs that have the potential to run downhill especially late in games leave the program. However, like many stated before me, you could probably see this coming.

It seems to me like alot of people are just taking this in stride. I'm not in any way suprised by this but I'm far from sold on a running game that averaged 120 ypg or whatever it was last season.

I don't think anyone said we should be sold on our running game,it's just that we can't expect to keep that many RB's happy. If he doesn't think he can beat out the guys coming back and wants to try some where closer to home so be it.

South Florida is the first college that came to my mind when I read this. It's right in his backyard and a college that has had some success in recent years.

Sorry, just the talk of having this log jam in the backfield got me thinking.

Didn't prove himself on the field???? He averaged 7 yards a carry in his career at Iowa!!! Nile Kinnick didn't do that! ;)

sux he is leaving but better him than Adam, Brandon, or Jewel- i think Coker just smiled lol

Not sure I agree, BeerZaux.

I, for one, am very sad to see Brinson go, though I certainly understand why he'd leave. That said, going into the spring/summer, I think he would have had a legit chance to establish himself in the lineup. Sure, Adam did a great job for us, but who's to say that a healthy Brinson wouldn't have done much better? It's of course only speculation, but it's important to remember that Brinson was the heir apparent when Jewel went down, and even with a healthy Jewel he would have gotten carries. ARob was still being considered for other positions. I may be guilty of putting too much stock in a yet unproven Brinson, but I think I would choose Brinson's projected skill set over ARob's.

Looking forward, you may be right that ARob, a tough, durable back with a full season of carries, is potentially more valuable to the team than Brinson, who, it appeared, might struggle with a nagging injury; but, even there, I think the promise of Brinson as a downhill runner and team leader shouldn't be underestimated.

Now, whether Coker's skills and pure explosiveness ultimately renders all of this unimportant (ie, if he's able to surpass both ARob and Jewel anyway) is another question, and I think we, as fans, still have a lot to be excited about (not to mention Wegher, Rogers, and other incoming freshmen)!

That solves some PT issues with the running backs. Stinks that we never got a glimpse of what he could do. I think the position is in good hands however. Good luck to Jeff!

Wasn't going to be easy but, would have liked to see him get a shot at cracking the lineup. Stranger things have happened.

This is so true - i was getting fed up with all the Brinson love. Until we see it on the field its impossible to know how good someone can be

How can you be fed up with some people speculating that Brinson could be a solid running back at Iowa? I'll agree that we can never know how good a kid is going to be...but we've got indicators as to how good they'll be and I guess we could spend 100% of our time discussing things that have already happened in order to ensure that we never find ourselves speculating on something that hasn't happened yet.

Are you also sick and tired of people saying that they think Bernstine is going to be good?

Actually, I think it's a good thing Jeff Brinson is leaving. He would face a tough depth chart and any chance of getting on the field would only appear to be injuries to Brandon Wegher, Adam Robinson and J Hampton. And NO ONE wants that to happen.

If Jeff wants to try to play elsewhere, then he gets my 'good luck' wish and Iowa gets an open scholarship to be granted at a position where we don't have the depth that we NOW DO at RB.

I have a feeling we'll get to see his skills, just in another uniform. maybe the "rambling wreck". (kidding) wish him well and hope his dad is o.k.
