Jay Scheel

Rap on the kid is he a little undersized. That could certainly change by the time he completes his senior season and gets to Iowa City.

Iowa football lands another 2014 in-state recruit | Hawk Central

It’s not certain what position the 6-foot-1, 170-pound Scheel will play at Iowa, although quarterback will be an option. Scheel is also being recruited as a receiver by some colleges.

Veteran recruiting analyst Tom Lemming was in Iowa City Sunday to interview the juniors who attended the junior day event. Lemming spoke highly of Scheel as an athlete. Lemming said he also was present when Scheel committed to Ferentz Sunday morning.

“I think he’s one of the better athletes around,” Lemming said of Scheel. “He’s very elusive and he’s got a decent arm. He’s a very good all-around athlete.

“He’s the kind of quarterback that they’re looking for these days. But he’s not real big.”

Story says Iowa also offered Clifton Garrett, a junior linebacker from Plainfield, Ill., who also holds offers from Notre Dame and Ohio State among other schools.

You didn't have to convince me Kmaj! ;)

In GD's horizontal passing game, seeing over the line is not a necessity.

Agreed, but they still need to get the ball down field. If GD can get KF to allow his QB to leave the pocket and throw out from the flats like Tate did, they will be much better. When you're throwing down field and you can't see over the line and you're in the pocket, not a good combination.

still haven't answered why he is destined to fail as a QB...

I NEVER SAID HE WAS DESTINED TO FAIL, LEARN TO READ.

Seriously, you are like talking to child who doesn't listen.

You can't compare every short, white, mobile QB and say they will be like Brees and Tate, it doesn't make sense.

I wasn't bashing on SCHEEL, HawkeyeMHA thought he was white, well he isn't.

I never said SCHEEL will fail but the odds are against shorter QBs to fail than taller ones.

It's pretty simple but you are so obsessed with sticking up for this imaginary short, white, mobile QB you miss the point.

2 very different quarterbacks
2 very different OC
2 very different situations

I know what you are saying but it all comes down to KF gets the final nod. Besides, no one knows what Jay Scheel will do in a year and a half at the college level. He might redshirt, that is two and a half years from now. He might not be able to handle it, we don't know.

That can be said about anyone, but I think people need to not lose sight of the fact that recruiting is all about potential based on playing lesser talent before most kids are fully developed or had proper training.

dave, you constantly contradict yourself. when it comes to other teams, you talk about "stars matter" and how their recruiting classes are so much better. but we're doing better because we have less 2 stars than ever this year. but yet we aren't supposed to get excited about a 4* because its just based on potential.

make up your mind, do stars matter or do they not?

Iowa recruiting is turning the corner. They grabbed Drew Ott out from Nebraska. Now they are keeping the Iowa guys from Nebraska. I look forward to seeimg these guys destroy the cornhuskes.

Well it's hard to tell with MeatMan sometimes, I like the guy guess I should just ignore him when it comes to "big boy" talk.

who are you then?

i trolled cause you came out with such a definitive statement and got pretty defensive about it. unneccesary to get so definitive so early on. especially when he might end up as a WR anyway. honestly though, this is college football. there are so many exceptions to the rule in all of college sports that this is a poor thing to argue about. guys excel in college that just can't find a spot in the pros. we've had a lot of undersized LT that can't make the NFL at that spot. should we stop recruiting those guys? no, because they are excellent LT in college, and that's what we're talking about.

yes, ideally it would be great to have all QB's with Stazi's size. but, having a QB 2 inches shorter doesn't mean that he can't be an effective QB. it would be great to have lots of DT's with Carl Davis's size, but it doesn't mean that we can't find a Klug, King, Daniels, that can do a better job as a much smaller DT. Iowa can't afford to be so strongly tied to some ideal. they have to be more willing to adapt. don't you agree?

I know what you are saying, it is just those types of guys like old "HerbyRedHawk/BlackTarn" that think that just because someone is similiar is size they have the ability/drive/determination to success as others have.

The most interesting thing about this thread is that Leming visted Iowa City. I figured the guy never leves dixie. wonder where he stayed. wonder where he ate.
