Stats don't lie. Play the young man Fran, he needs to be on the COURT.

First 18 games:
Iowa record - 15-3
10 PPG
6.0 RPG
21.0 MPG

Last 13 Games (Since Road Michigan Game)
Iowa Record - 5-8
3.0 PPG
3.0 RPG
13.0 MPG

Buahaha. I'm sure the level of competition doesn't matter at all.

Don't bring that weak sauce..

17 minutes against Xavier
18 minutes against Villanova
24 Minutes Notre Dame
17 Minutes #17 Iowa State
16 Minutes #4 Wisconsin
26 Minutes #3 Ohio State

When there's snow on the ground in Iowa City, the Hawks lose.

Damn snow...move this team to Florida right now!

But stats DO lie. He's struggling right now. You put his minutes back up I don't think he magically returns to his good play from earlier.

Make light of it Seth. Uthoff needs minutes he is a player that giving the opportunity to play provides huge value to this team.

So his points per minutes and rebounds per minutes have both fallen off over the last 13 games, and we're surprised that his minutes are dropping as well?

That is your logic?? How funny..

He is one of our Top 3 players off the bench, that needs to be play. That is a FACT!!! Fran needs to play him and stop playing with him.

Here's a classic lesson in correlation != causation.

fran has really screwed with this kid. He's got a ton of talent and his minutes went to McCabe (pushing White to the 3). His minutes should have been going up. 20ish a game and he would have been a 10/6 all year. Playing so much at the 3 also was a really bad thing for White.

next year I hope Uteff at 3, white at 4 JO and. Jok at 2

You all can make light of it. Stats don't lie and our fall has a lot to do with Fran going away from what was working.

I would rather lose with Jarrod than the other options provided off the bench.

Uthoff is just an incredibly awkward player at this point. And he was bad matchup last night. If he is playing the "three," we almost have to play zone defense. Because neither White, Uthoff, McCabe, or Basabe can play man defense against three-guard looks (look at the teams who beat us--three guards).

That would be fine if Uthoff could exploit his defender down the court, either through post-ups, offensive rebounding, or shooting over his man or the zone. But he can't. So we might as well play Ogelsby and Jok more so we can at least have a couple guys in the game with better lateral quickness and perimeter shooting. And Uthoff is not good enough to take minutes away from White and Basabe at the 4. Hence, he doesn't play.

We need more guards/wings. And we need better guards/wings. In college basketball it is easier for a decent 6' 4" guard to exploit a player like Uthoff or White than it is vice-versa. That quicker player can play tight on ball defense because of superior quickness, and refs allow a lot of physical play in the paint to negate post-up advantages.

I guess the question is - did his stats fall because he is playing less? Or, is he playing less because his stats fell? Oh, that's 2 questions. :)

Exactly right Woody.. I guess I just want to know. I think it is fell because he is playing less. Hey but that is just me and I could be wrong. If I'm wrong I'm fine with that. :)

I think he plays less when he contributes less. Uthoff has looked less sure of himself lately. Let's remember this is his 1st season as a major college player. He seems to have worn down a bit. I think he can come back even stronger next year (and maybe next week :)).

Fran plays bench players (especially the younger ones) by how they seem to be playing during that game (and probably in practice). That's why we saw more of Jok yesterday and it seems like Clemmons gets a shot once in a while (and gets yanked when he makes a mistake sometimes). It can be a little maddening, but I think Fran is searching (especially in this losing streak) for anyone to contribute once they are on the floor.
