Jarrod Uthoff

Jarrod can play the 3 or 4, so it will be split w/ White and McCabe.
It's a good question though, mins have to come from somewhere.

Will McCabe fall back to a May-type role next year? Possibly. But he could also take some of May's time at the 3 too.

I think it all depends on how Jok and Uthoff play, because to me it seems that Jok will sub for Marble and Uthoff will sub for White. But then what if Kyle Meyer struggles and GO does RS, McCabe is gonna have some pressure to play the bigs in the B1G for extended minutes.

I hope it all works out and that McCabe is the next May-type player because Eric May has really surprised me this year. I no longer worry when he is on the court. JO on the other hand, I still like the kid but I hope he works out his issues, he needs to shoot better.

Rare instance in which I agree with Duff.

People are imputing Og's shooting slump to his entire game. Fortunately for the team, Og isn't making the same mistake.

Oglesby's less-than-stellar shooting, by the way, is mental, not physical.

Predicsheooooonnnn: Next year Oglesby with shoot between 37% and 42% from three.

WOW! That is bold, considering he's currently the least successful shooter on the team (41 / 143 = 28.7%) and 2nd worst 3-pt shooter (32 / 118 = 27.1%).

IF your prediction becomes reality, and Og's simply takes the same attempts, he's adding somewhere between 36 and 54 points. How big would those points have been, at the right time, in 5 or 6 games this year! Iowa would possibly have 1 conference loss!

I'd gladly take Oglesby shooting 33 - 36% from three. If he does that, Iowa will be contending for a B1G title. That reliable outside shooting threat is the major component holding this team down.

One thing I tried to tell people when they were fawning over how great Josh was going to be at Iowa was that you can fairly well predict a college player's 3 point shooting from their high school 3 point shooting. Josh was NOT a great 3 point shooter in high school. He was okay, but strong college 3 point shooters were always superior high school 3 point shooters.

What you normally see from high school to college is a 3.5-5% drop in average. For Josh that means he should have been predicted to shoot in the low to mid 30s in college. Now with Josh it is hard to accurately understand where his percentages really are because last year he only attempted 3.5 3s a game and this year he is only at 4.7. But when you average it all together, you get him at 32%, which is about exactly what should have been expected.

But, as long as he keeps working on his defense and ball movement and Fran doesn't recruit over him too much, he will probably end up somewhere within your range for his career at Iowa.

What does this mean? May plays more minutes than McCabe right now.

I hope McCabe sees more minutes next year. I think his contributions to this program have been under-estimated and perhaps under-appreciated. Yes, in the past he could be counted on for one or two dumb, obvious fouls each game. But he also has often played bigger, more athletic opponents tough, has done a decent job of rebounding and defense, and he has a surprisingly good shot from beyond the arc. There are games where I wish Fran would put Zach in more of a Josh type role of roaming the baseline then popping out to the wings for an open three-point shot. It was his three-pointer that broke Iowa's ice-jam against Minny and started the comeback.

I wasn't comparing Eric May this year to Zach McCabe this year.

I'm talking about his role on the team. The senior leadership role. Eric's minutes decreased from his freshman year to his soph year, then he was injured jr year and his mins were sparse. He is still playing less than his freshman and soph years because there is more talent around him. I expect McCabe's senior year to be comparable. Less PT than his fresh/soph years, playing smarter, doing the things he knows he can do, helping the team win that way.

Speaking of McCabe, I thought he was a huge factor in the Minnetonka game. We were getting crushed, outplayed everywhere. He came in and played very hard, made several plays. He is growing on me. Not the most athletic, but tough.

McCabe is better in physical games against physical teams like Minny. He gets too agressive sometimes and ends up in foul trouble.

True. And I blame this somewhat on the inconsistency of officiating in the B1G ... heck, even beyond the conference. There are games were Zach's physical play matches the opponent's and is allowed. Others, it seems he gets whistled for not much contact. Has to be a bit frustrating for him and the coaches. OTOH, he has to learn how to adjust his play each game, even each stretch of a game, so as to avoid dumb, needless fouls.

So a kid who has not played one game in the Big Ten is going to come in a take significant minutes away from a senior and seasoned veteran? Not happening.

The beauty of a very deep Iowa team is that it really doesn't matter if Zach gets into foul trouble. He can play his game, be very effective and productive and it won't hurt Iowa if he gets 3 or 4 fouls (or fouls out) plenty of other players to come in for him. He isn't even a starter theses days.

btw Zach has really reduced stupid fouls for the most part. At the same time it hasn't affected his hustle plays that really get the Hawks going... (not to mention key 3 pointers at the right time)
