IU's Cody Zeller = weak sauce tonight

Sure hope this game doesn't discourage Zeller from entering the Draft. He will certainly be a lottery pick close to number one.....

Syracuse looks like the type of team that's going to win this thing.

Syracuse doesn't always shoot as well as they did tonight. I'll take Marquette in tomorrow's Big East game. They have seen that zone and after getting lucky in the 1st round seem to be playing loose knowing it's all borrowed time.

That was all about Crean being exposed as a coach. You have four days to prepare you team for that zone and that's all you got. That was "turrible"...as Barkley would say. Granted, the Cuse big men were allowed to absolutely clobber Zeller most of the night...but we are in the 'swallow your whistle time' of the tournament. I don't think that game was officiated the way Indiana had hoped. No excuse for them, but there was a ton of contact on Zeller and others.

The way you beat that Zone is that you have to isolate two shooter at the top and let them launch, but your other three guys are crashing the boards. Indiana was all spreadout and had no offensive rebounding position. Watch what Marquette does...they will hammer the offensive glass. That's how you beat the 'Cuse. You play a zone, you can't protect the glass against good rebounding teams.

Let's face, Indiana was more finesse all year anyway...but that game plan and offensive execution was turrible.

I've always said Crean is a terrible game coach...but he can recruit. Recruiting keeps a guy employed and sometimes deep in the tourny if the players are good enough.

There are three teams that I have left that might make the Final Four. I have none of them winning....

I have Ohio State, Michigan and Michigan State still alive but none of them winning......

I am ashamed to go to Hy-Vee because I think everyone knows.....

:)

On the plus side, at least Jordan Hulls was 0-5 from behind the arc. I'm sick of hearing about how great of a shooter he is. He can't hit the broad side of a barn unless he's wide open.

In fairness he was hurt. I think Iowa has controlled the guy the last 4 years and also think he has to be wide open to contribute...but he was wide open on a couple and missed. I think his shoulder was bothering him.

Wasn't even an foul called on the hit that injured his shoulder. He would have been hurt wearing football pads on that hit......

I am glad that he and Byrd are gone. Peas from the same pod.....

I don't think Zeller is any better this year. I also don't think he was very good in any of the 3 NCAA games...not just last night. He may want to seriously consider going to the NBA. The class is weak this year and I'm not sure how much he's going to improve. It's highly doubtful he will ever fall out of the 1st round when he goes but... I don't think Olandipo hurt his draft stock last night or in this tournament. I think he will go and Zeller will likely stay. We will know soon.

I agree. He took a shot and it was at a bad angle...increasing the risk of injury. It probably hurt more last night that it did the last game when it happened.

Should have had Sheehey catching the ball at the high post. He can knock down that shot and put it on the floor. It would also leave Zeller on the block where hes comfortable. Crean was so out coached by Boeheim it wasnt even funny.

I said this very same thing last night. Sheehey was roaming the baseline where he has no business while Zeller was in the high post reluctant to shot, when he did take it he made it.

Here what Zeller can do:
1. Hit the jumper
2. Has post moves
3. Clean up on the glass and get a lot of putbacks

Here is what Zeller actually does:
3. Clean up on the glass and get a lot of putbacks

Zeller isn't a highly athletic guy, he works hard and gets dunks from people not putting a body on him, Syracuse did that and so does Wisconsin. He is reluctant to take shots that he can make from around the free throw line, earlier this season I said IU doesn't ask him to do that, but last night showed they thought he should, what other reason to keep him in the high post?
Also, Zeller makes a lot of good moves when he doesn't drop his head, but he ends up off balance a lot and gets bailed out, he wasn't last night.

That said, there is a match-up or two every year in the NCAA tournament that you look at and wonder how the officials are going to call the game. Last night was one of those, when officials don't see teams they tend to officiate by reputation and Syracuse has a rep for being physical and IU does not. Syracuse hammered IU all night on the defensive end, but IU got called for a ton of touch fouls. There was one where Oladipo took the ball and got cut off by Carter-Williams and was almost knocked down, IU misses a shot and Syracuse runs to the other end and Sheehey runs by the Syracuse guy and doesn't even touch him and a foul is called. Another game that comes to mind was the Mizzou-Arizona game a few years ago when Mizzou just mugged Arizona all game, but Arizona had four guys foul out and they were deemed a finesse team. It just happens in the NCAA tournament sometimes.

Indiana also showed how they had no bench to speak of whatsoever, but had one of the highest ranked recruiting classes to come in last season with Perea and Hollowell being highly ranked and Jurkin a defensive player. This is something that surprises me it took this long to show. They just have nothing outside of Sheehey that really does anything.

Crean was outcoached and I think his relatives are rubbing off on him as he has really become a tool this year. Cutting down nets after losses and going after the Michigan assistant. Spotlight a little bit to bright for him, or what?

All year I have thought it is about a 30% chance of Zeller leaving and 60% Oladipo leaving, after that performance it may be less of a chance. Either way, it doesn't matter to me if they come back, I would like to see all the hype that they have and fail again next season.

I am not sure how great of a recruiter he is actually. He is at Indiana and if he can't get top players there then something is wrong.

It's tough on your shoulder when you c*ck the ball back on it like most 8th grade girls do.

haha no.

There are a select number of Hoosier players that I get annoyed watching. And their HC bugs me w/ his hypocrisy.

I will lay off them.

No I love it, Hulls is probably one of the most annoying players I have ever watched...or should I say Jordy...ugh:mad:
