ISU looking Good

That defense also couldn't get off the field for the majority of the 2nd half, and was getting gashed by a team from the MAC. They got no pressure on Grady, couldn't stop Spann, and missed tackles all night.

"Gashed" to the tune of less than 250 yards? Are you seriously considering that as having been gashed? C'mon...just a smidgeon of objectivity might help your case.

I'm not worried at all. And honestly, no need to be worried about ISU until they can prove that they can score TD's against us. What I saw of ISU tonight showed that our D will completely manhandle the Clown line and Hampton/Arob will have a great night rushing, not to mention that I would expect our WR's and TE's take their LB's and CB's to the woodshed.

I see it more like a beating they are used to getting from us.

Their Oline didn't look all that awesome either and I don't really see them being able to move the ball very well consistently. Arnaud will get rattled when he feels Clayborn, klug, ballard and binns close to him and will turn into a Int machine.
Your team hasn't even played a game. I know two things.
1) NIU is better than UNI was last year.

2) This was a more convincing win than Iowa's last home opener

NIU returned an experienced team. Fact is, their line has more size and experience than Iowa's O line, so how is Iowa going to run the ball all day? I almost guarantee Iowa has more trouble getting run yardage. This blind faith in a huge unknown for your team always makes me scratch my head. But then I remember who posts on these boards.

Have you ever heard of first-game jitters? Furthermore, if you didn't already know, it's actually EASIER to lose focus for home games than it is for away games. That was likely a contributing factor as to why Iowa seemed to execute a bit more cleanly in away games as opposed to home games last year.

Difference of opinion, jumbo jet. Chill out.

I'm sure they'll improve between now and next week, but I'm also guessing that Iowa will improve as well.

In the third quarter, NIU moved the ball pretty much however they wanted to. ISU bowed up on the goal line, gotta give it to them for that.

Nice to see you learned to hit that quote button.

I'm going to go ahead and say that Iowa's o-line coaches and players are better than NIU's were. Shot in the dark.

You're here, aren't you? Don't you have a win to celebrate somewhere else. Like CyFan?

I anticipate that Iowa will likely win too ... however, I highly doubt it will end up being an affair wherein Iowa gets to name its score.

Iowa likely will improve. However, a key thing to note is that ISU face a much higher quality foe that the one that Iowa will face this Saturday. As a consequence, ISU has better tape to learn from ... and that will potentially allow them to make bigger developmental strides earlier.

Unfortunately, I worry that EIU will give Iowa reps that are only a little bit more valuable than scrimmage reps. Thus, Iowa won't enjoy as big of a developmental stride between week one and week two. Instead, Iowa will likely make its bigger stride between weeks 2 and 3.

Don't get me wrong, I don't think Iowa is going to be able to throw out their jersies next weekend and win. ISU will be fired up, and Rhoads will have his boys ready to go. No doubt in my mind about that.

That being said, they are very small, and very inexperienced, and not deep at all up front or at linebacker. NIU pushed them around in the 3rd quarter and turned ISU over on three straight possessions.

Yeah, the people that want to keep trying to make NIU into something tonight need to step back. No team from a mid-major with a QB who played that poorly should be able to play with a BCS conference team. Plain and simple.

This is why preseason rankings are stupid. We saw what Pitt's ranking meant. When you have turnover at QB you need to see the newcomer play before you have any idea what the team will do.

I admit I didn't read much of this thread, but-

Two things- The first is that the NIU QB was AWFUL. If he could have hit an open WR at all tonight, ISU might have gotten beat.

2nd thing- It does not matter how good or bad ISU looked tonight. They will show up to play next week, and play their ***** off because they are playing us.

I will not lose any sleep over this game at all. We will win, and I do not think the game will ever be in doubt. Call me arrogant if you want, but I highly doubt Stanzi will miss those open WR downfield, and if the ISU DBs (That just fits, doesn't it) can't cover the NIU WRs, what makes you think they can cover McNutt, DJK, Sandeman, Davis, Reisner, CJF, etc.

Also, Jewel Hampton will be toting the rock, and he is slightly better than the NIU RB that tore up ISU tonight. Oh, and then there's that defense that we will be packing too. Good luck Clones. You will need it to be within two TDs.

OK, so that was more than two things. Sorry. :)

What does celebrating a win have to do with it? My comment about the people who post on these boards was in lue of overzealous fans who have blinders on to any reality that would challenge their teams dominance. Fact is, barring last years debacle, ISU gives Iowa tough games, and wins their share. To expect anything less is wearing blinders.

ISU will have a decent year, by ISU standards, but they won't beat Iowa.

I'll go as far to say that if ISU Scores over 10 points in the first 3 quarters next week, Iowa is going to be in a lot of trouble in Arizona.

So your saying I should take Hawks and the spread?!?!?!?! I sure hope so

to keep the game at least even, KF is going to have to pull from his ole' bag of tricks circa 2008. slip the refs a few c notes, see if you can't get the grounds crew to some how make that turf grow.......see if you can do a little tinkering with clownie communication gear, flood the field??, etc.

you know KF will be pulling out all the stops - he doesn't beat ISU, he'll be on the hot seat......

wait a minute, I think I'm repeating stuff i've heard somewhere else......

K 'win at all costs' F.......

Because there aren't any overzealous fans on CyFan? Please. You're on an Iowa board, Iowa fans expect Iowa to beat Iowa State. Why are you acting surprised?

Stann rushed for over a thousdand yards last year I believe. Has Hampton ever done that before he blew his knee, a severe injury for any football player? Also, there is the thing called an O line. NIU had a big and experienced line. Iowa returns two starters. Saturdays cupcake should show us how much the Iowa O line has learned in camp. They looked pretty bad their first scrimmage.

Could you be a bit more vague? Is that referring to spring?

Not suprised, but it seems half the posters here have lost all objectivity. When Jon Miller picked Iowa to be in the NC game, I thought it was some kind of disease. The season has yet to start for Iowa, so I believe reserving judement should be required at this point. Be happy with the known good quantities(solid WR, RB, great DL), but be mindful of weaknesses(who is replacing Spievey, who are the new LBs, who are all these kids on the OL?) ISU just beat the returning MAC champion in their home opener. It is a solid start for them, and will be a better prep for next week than the EIU slaughter on Saturday is for Iowa. Also, with labor day, that extra day of practice for ISU might come in handy, relative to Iowa.
