Is Stanley the future?

It sounded like there were a lot of good things said about him at kids day. Is it realistic that he could leap Wiegers/Cook/Boyle and find the field next year? Or did people talk him up a little too much?

I still think Tyler W. Has a big upside to take over in 2017. But, I would not be surprised to see this new kid as the future QB. At worst, I really like where we are situated for the future in this position.

If we can get a solid body or two to try to replace Johnson and Ekkakitie, then if we can get a few more good receivers. I would feel good about all of our positions.

I'd brought this up in an earlier thread and let's just say some don't think so. However I've heard nothing but great things about Stanley and so far Wiegers & Cook haven't shown much of anything. I think he'll certainly push for it and his ceiling seems to be higher. A part of me wishes that Cook would go to TE and Boyle woulda stayed at QB. Boyle won't play much WR they have enough bodies there if there aren't many injuries. Having athletic QBs just brings more to the table we've seen that over and over. Cook isn't that mobile or fluid and his arm doesn't look that great. He looks like an Hback/TE that needs to beef up to me. The question about him will be is if he's 3rd string next yr behind whichever way you want to list Wiegers and Stanley what's Cook do then? Transfer like Derby(and then change) or stay and change? With Wiegers still in the fold having been around as long as he will have been by next year he'll have every chance to win the job. He just seems like he's a check down machine. It may be a more interesting decision than some may want to admit. But some writers are already bringing it up... http://www.hawkcentral.com/story/sp...-day-hawkeye-scrimmage-kirk-ferentz/88690134/

In my opinion, yes he is. He has the it factor. I don't think any of the guys in front of him have his talent or potential at the QB position. I think Cook and Boyle could eventually play at TE and WR, but I can't see them being the starting QB. Weigers, to me, is a solid backup guy. I hope he stays at Iowa if he doesn't get the nod. It's always nice to have a veteran guy available for both leadership and experience on the bench.

Again, this is just my opinion. Weigers hasn't shown me much. I've seen Weigers in practices several times and he never really impressed me. Stanley impressed me in his very first public practice. That says a lot.

I was there Saturday and Wiegers struggled. Didn't recognize blitzes or coverages. Cook also struggled. His delivery takes so long and his ball has no zip. Stanley looked good but it's a little early in his process to really know what he can do. If Wiegers can get the mental part down he will be ok. He throws a nice ball. Next year could be interesting at that position to say the least.

I suspect Weigers will have an edge next year as he has been in the program and has had a lot of practice snaps running the O. He also throws a very good ball and I think he'd do fine in spot duty if needed. I think he could move the offense with a sound running game to help. He looked good last year. Stanley did have a nice day and I was pleasantly surprised but think he will continue to learn next year and have an opportunity after Weigers graduates.

I think Cook struggled the most & has the most work to do.

I heard he's so good, he may leap CJ this yea

KF always says good things about his new freshmen. Doesn't mean a thing...

Stanley has had 10 practices (none of which you probably saw) and you see him for 5 minutes throwing against the 5th team Defense and you have proclaimed he has the 'it' factor? Lol. You folks kill me. Weigers was scrimmaging against one of the top 5 defenses in the country who KNOWS the plays. Do you remember how bad Iowa's offense and CJ looked last year in the spring game and how everyone said we wouldn't win 4 games after seeing the spring game? Don't you folks ever 'learn' anything? The 'selective' memory of some you is stunning...........

I actually think he made a good point.

He made one good point about Weigers playing against better players. Other than that his post was garbage again. Stanley looking good against a weaker defense does say something considering he's a first year player. It's all relative.

From what we saw in limited action, he looks the part in the pocket and he can sling it. He has the physical tools. Im excited to see him down the road
