Is Stanley the future?

Well sure it does. Brett Favre is a pretty good example of production worth the mistakes. He never quit making them, and sometimes it cost them games. But his production won them way more games than his mistakes cost them. They wouldn't have been near the team during that time if they had a "game manager" all those years.
You can't win in the NFL with a 'game manager'? Don't tell the 2016 Denver Broncos that, as Manning was relegated to being a 'game manager' (http://www.todayspigskin.com/afc/denver-broncos/peyton-mannings-game-manager-role-crucial/.) And don't tell the only undefeated team in NFL history that, because Griese was the consummate 'game manager'. You watch to many sport shows. What exactly is a 'game manager'? lol. And how do you know when one goes from being a 'game manager', to whatever? If your QB has to try to hit the home run constantly, or make risky throws, your team is in trouble. If you have a solid run and game and good defense, than your QB doesn't have to try to make 'big plays' all the time (high risk) and you just 'manage' the game. Most coaches just want to be in a position where their QB is just 'managing' the game (moving the chains, not turning it over, etc..) and almost ALWAYS chose their QB accordingly....

Here's what a couple people had to say about the QB 'situation' a while ago....who should we listen to? Hmmm.
This 'expert' (lol):
Boyle won't be moving anywhere. Wouldn't shock me at all to see him play ahead of Wiegers after CJ graduates. NationalChamps Dec.13, 2015

Or someone who might know what they are talking about:
I'd be surprised...if that happened, then Boyle is real good. I think Wiegers has some game, and a big arm.

You were actually right about something, and then you doubted yourself. Trust your instincts more. They definitely wanted to see where everyone is at before 'camp' ended and they can't do that without seeing some of them (especially QB's) with the 'bigboys'. Camp is over and now the IMPORTANT reps start as the 1's and 2's get almost all the reps and the rest (like Stanley) are relegated to working (rep'ing) with the 'others' or with scout teams. The final 'camp' scrimmage is almost entirely for getting a look at 'where' people are in their progress and making some final decisions about some of the position battles because once game prep starts, the 'battles' are pretty much over. You have from spring till that scrimmage to state your case. I'm not saying there aren't exceptions, but for the most part, that is the 'rule' as game prep and planning take up most of the coaches time and some would be amazed at how much 'teaching' is going on with the 1's and 2's in game prep..........So I wouldn't read much into it (you can if you want, I can't stop you), and I think Stanley does have a bright 'future' at Iowa...........

Again, here's your IT factor!

I hope he doesn't end up too good. I've heard most coaches would rather have a game manager who doesn't make mistakes than a hall of famer at qb.

Oh I love it when a guy joins the board and starts aggressively telling everyone else that they are wrong. Starts telling everyone they are an idiot. They clearly don't know football... etc, etc, etc....

And then they make themselves look like a dolt. Epic fail Icke. Epic fail.

Since your gut feeling was right are you going to start telling everyone they're idiots and you know all the coaches and players?

Nah. Just Icke. I don't know any of the players anymore. Though I did know a few back in the day when I was in college there. The only time I get inside info is when my cousin, who is a D3 defensive coordinator, attends practice in Iowa City. He usually goes once or twice during fall camp for learning purposes. I haven't talked to him recently though so I've got nothing.

My opinion on Stanley was certainly a gut feeling. I've only seen Stanley practice once (kids day), but I've seen Weigers in person 4 times now. My gut feeling was based upon what I saw in person, articles I've read about Stanley prior to him arriving at Iowa, and also the comments Kirk made about him last week. The kid just has it. A lot like CJ has it. There's nothing special or flashy about him, but he's a football player. He's a cerebral QB, and by the sounds of it he just didn't seem like the kind of kid who was going to get rattled by the pressure at this level. Total gut feeling though. No problem admitting that.

What I don't understand is how someone who knows everything that's going on inside the Iowa locker room can get on you so hard for making a prediction that was headed down the path of being right. It's almost like the coaches held that one secret from him. Were you ripping on coaches and players or something to deserve the name calling?

I think the single biggest positive about Stanley is his maturity level. Obviously the kid has a lot of talent, but what impressed me the most in the articles I read about him prior to his arrival at Iowa was the fact his coaches seemed to focus on his maturity. Even the way he made his commitment to Iowa. He didn't have any fanfare. He conducted very few, if any, interviews. Even his Hudl highlight tape was private. He basically made a decision, shut down his recruitment, and then went radio silent and focused on being a football player. That's what impressed me right off the bat. That's why I said I thought he had the "it" factor. He just seems like a young man with maturity beyond his years. It doesn't seem like he cares about anything other than football.

Exactly... Which is also why he snuck under the recruiting radar. He could have been a much higher profiled star rated kid I think. If he'd have showcased himself at camps and sold himself more. But he had the Iowa offer committed in early June that year and that was that. When Wisky and some other teams came on hard after him late they had no chance. I'm sure Wisky and their fans have to be kicking themselves over missing the boat on him...

In what way am I taking a 'hit'??? I think you guys need to go back and read my posts again.......

You go back and read your posts dude. You were being a pompous ass simply because I've been impressed with Stanley and had a good feeling about him. It's the way in which you choose to debate. It's obnoxious. It's hard to read. Most of all it's arrogant. You act like you are the only one who knows anything about football.

Welcome back to reality. It appears my "gut feeling" was spot on whether or not you want to admit it. You can eat crow and gain a little respect back or you can keep your head in the sand. Your choice.

He's made his choice. I still don't understand the luv his fanboys have for him. Especially the whole, "Why can't we just embrace everyone on this board as our fellow Hawkeye brother worthy of equal respect." Because sometimes children need to be disciplined. But in today's pussified PC America that sentiment is rejected.:(

There IS one KF "trend" that worries me, that of "late-to-the-switch". NOT because the "chosen" starter isn't capable, more because the close QB battles always seem to rattle the "chosen" starter beyond reason (Christensen looked fine in relief of Tate, then spiraled downward; JR seemed fine early, then as CJB rumblings began, he seemed tentative at times). If the race for #2 QB is really that close, either figure out a way to mix in some 2-QB scenarios, or encourage Wiegers to transfer and get playing time/exposure elsewhere.

QB battles at Iowa can be agonizingly brutal, both on the field AND on the message boards!

He threw more than one? A better argument would have been "You mean 5-INT-vs.-Indiana Rick Stanzi?"

He meant orange bowl as in he led them to a great year, and pick 6 rick as in he made a lot of mistakes. He wasn't singling out one interception.

If you were able to interpret it THAT way. One of your alts, maybe? :)

It was in reference to your post saying production never makes up for mistakes if mistakes keep happening. Well Stanzi was known for throwing pick 6's but his production was enough to win the orange bowl. It didn't take much to figure out what he meant there.
