Is Ryan Leaf Now Unseated?

Is Ryan finally off the hook & finally dethroned as the biggest NFL bust? He has carried that title for a number of years. Johnny Manziel turned himself into police yesterday afternoon for his assault arrest. I'm not sure he will ever get it straight or even see an NFL field again. If that is the case, is there a new King for NFL's biggest bust? I think its starting to smell that way and Ryan Leaf can finally take a huge breath.

Yep, I would agree........

Unfortunately for Leaf, this will not unseat him. Leaf was picked #2, which comes with a lot higher expectations than #22. In terms of unseating him as a 1st round QB who turns out to be a total tool, perhaps, but not the same level of bust.

JaMarcus Russell is probably a bigger bust than Leaf (taken #1 overall, similar lack of success), but he did not conduct himself in such embarrassing fashion (over, and over, and over...)

Between Russell and Leaf... They were just way higher draft picks at a time when they got huge signing bonuses/contracts too. In all actuality losing Manziel isn't that big of a deal financially to the team as how their pay structure is now. The teams found a way to protect themselves on the financial end of things when it comes to busts now. These players don't get crazy contracts till after their rookie deals expire. The Browns as an organization just stink so bad it don't matter much.. Leaf when he got to San Diego was looked as helping them get to next level. He won his first two starts I believe and had a gun. But it was all down hill from there. Russell never got on the off ramp... He got that big signing bonus and just never even tried... Which was too bad many scouts have said he had the absolute best pro day (for what that's worth) they've ever seen.

Not even close to the biggest bust. The world is littered with former Heisman winners who did absolutely nothing in the League. Manziel is just the latest one.

Even without all the off field drama there was no guarantee his game translated into the NFL. At best he was Doug Flutie a long time back up, occasional spot starter, who will run around and make some plays for you. It wasn't like he was going to be the next Aaron Rodgers.

JM was a great college QB with little NFL upside. Leaf was a big gun, big arm, huge NFL upside.
Leaf probably needed meds. What a waste.

The biggest draft bust ever would be Tony Mandarich, and if not him, then JaMarcus Russell. A #22 overall pick cannot be the biggest bust of all time.

If you made a list of the biggest busts of all time, I wonder how many of the top 20 would be Raider's picks?

There's a lot of good college players that didn't make it in the pros but that doesn't make them a bust. The ones that bust have the ability to play but get caught up with to big of egos, money, drugs, partying and being a dirtbag.

Mandarich actually had a couple of decent years with the Colts, I believe. He was a huge disappointment but not sure the biggest bust ever.

The conversation was should we pick Peyton Manning or Ryan Leaf??? I would say that Leaf had really really big expectations so to me he is #1 on the list.
