Is lovie smith alive?

I just took a look at the Illinois Scout football forum. Their fans are beyond dejected with their program, can't blame them. They don't see much hope in the horizon. I hate how they change their uniforms every week (like IU does.) They need to go and pick a classic look and stick with it for identity. I personally would go with orange helmets with the Chief Illini logo on it, dark blue solid jerseys with orange pants w/blue/white stripes. Plus, their stadium sucks, it's old and looks outdated. They need major renovations to attract better players. I have been to their stadium twice, and I think it's the worst in the BIG 10.

The uniforms they wear are the least of that program's worries

Doesn't seem that long that Zook was there and they made the Rose. But it seems that Illinois puts their stock in BB and that what their fans care about. At least ISU fans get jacked about a new coaches prospects and supports the program thru that 1st year.

Zooker got trucked by USC as bad as we got trucked by Stanford.

Everything about the U of Illanoy is a dump. The town, the stadium, that facilities. Pretty amazing considering the potential resources and recruiting base. My theory is that the Bears are such a big deal that nobody gives a crap about the college team. Northworstern is a nice niche program, but nobody in Chicago really gives a rip about them either. It's Da Bears or bust.

Agree they totally need massive upgrades to be competitive. Think about it. How does a team like IL suck so bad. They should have an advantage with Chicago recruits. Well, when I think about it, Champaign may not be that much closer to Chitown than Iowa City or other BIG schools. But still you'd think they'd have a little advantage with recruiting Chicago.

Guess I saw things differently. I saw a team that is way under talent, except for the D line and QB that tackled and did a lot of thing fundamentally correct. Iowa players lead way to much with the helmet. When the smoke is cleared, his recruiting this year will likely be on par with Iowa, which considering how bad the program is...not a terrible thing. He's the opposite of KF on control, but has clear expectations.

AS far as the town, Champaign is better and worse than IC. Having 2 kids graduate from Iowa/Illinois, there is more to do for kids at Illinois in general. The high crime areas of Champaign look a lot like older areas of IC.

My concern is that Illinois will turn things around and Iowa will lose Illinois recruiting wars.
