Is Kirk right?

Nfl philosophy? Huh? Not ones that win Super Bowls. They have qb’s and throw for 250 and beyond every Sunday. Two that come to mind are Tennessee, pitt and ny g-men. Successful at times but not world champions

Yes, it's an NFL philosophy more than what most college programs are doing now. KF would luv to have a QB throw around 200 -225 yrds as that would mean have better balance. He just doesn't now with what is going on with the units and especially injuries.

You can't seen the NFL influence in what Iowa does?

Just have a tunnel vision towards bitching and complaining I guess.

I think it listed the teams pretty clearly that iowa resembles. It certainly isn’t the more successful ones. It’s the ones in the middle. The ones that are always around.500. The ones that don’t perform in the passing game.at is the difference between these middle of the road nfl teams and iowa? Scheduling

Hard to argue he doesn’t know what’s best for Iowa football the last 5 seasons despite the fans frustration.

Lay back and take it.
Kirk isnt right about alot

what he is right about is how he rode a job for 20 years of mediocre football into a place in the college hall of fame. Seriously its a joke.

in that sense he is a genius.

Kirk continues to laugh in the face of all Iowa fans while cashing a big check. Name 1 coach from Jr High football to the NFL that would continue to employ his awful OV let alone have a job himself.

The cupboard is now bare much like Hayden left it. Coach can’t evaluate talent to safe his life. The game has past him by and it’s time for him to go.

We’ve had the same offensive issues year after year regardless of the OC because the same puppet master is pulling the strings.

Kirk's problem is he's running pro-style offenses vs college defenses. However...
* Pro LBs typically play 5 yds behind the LOS, instead of 2 yds like college, making it harder to run the ball in the college game while playing a pro-style offense.
* Pro LBs play as deep as they do because most pro QBs can beat you throwing the ball.
* Iowa doesn't have an OL that is good as pro OLlines and cannot protect the passer.
* Iowa doesn't have QBs on the roster that are as accurate or as smart as pro QBs.
Hence, it's hard to run in Iowa's offense, AND it's hard to pass.
Alabama opted out of KF's type of offense years ago. With Wisconsin opting out this year, it appears Iowa may be the last such team standing. Or falling.

I think its reached a point where he can't be objective any more. He just can't see the problem. He's too close to it.

I would add:

* Pro WR's can get open
* Pro offenses actually throw to the WR's

Lol. Good luck InGoodCo defending your opinion/thoughts this week. More power to you!

Well, I mean, Iowa won this game but yeah, can't defend the offense at this point and wouldn't. Still, Iowa won the game the way Kirk thought they would, with field positions, defense and ST play....that was taken away from them unfortunately and so, not a lot I can say to make it better other than, that was a game that was taken away from Iowa. It sucked

Yea, but the point is that Iowa should have NEVER been in that position at that point in the game to have to rely on a punt return for a TD to pull that out. I mean the call sucked absolutely, but I don't find myself being so butthurt about it because of the issues Iowa has with coaching and roster. It's expected.

See, I'm the opposite. I knew Iowa was going to be in that position. I knew it was going to be a close game and Vegas thought so too. I didn't come in to the game thinking Iowa was going to suddenly know how to run a compitent Offense. I knew this game was going to be close and I knew in order for Iowa to win, they were going to have to either do it with ST or D. Ya know, kind of like they've been doing. That was taken away from em and Iowa lost.... so, again, I knew the Offense was going to stink...in fact, I absolutely knew it was going to stink right? Ya know how I knew? Cause I've been watching. :)

So, when you take it out of the D and ST's ability to let you win the game, then I think Iowa is very beatable. They weren't allowed to win the game how they win games.

The offense should be better, so not saying it shouldn't....I'm just realistically looking at the program for what it is and it is what it is right? You take the ability from them to make the ST's count and that's going to lead to an Iowa L.

Knowing they were going to be in that position and if they should be in that position are two very different debates. I figured it was going to be a close game as well, but again, Iowa didn't do enough on offense to deserve to win. A Div 1 football program should not look that bad or lost or with that many deficits in all units on offense, even with the injuries they have endured. It's as simple as that.

But man, that Dejean had a 12 defender with that sideline and still manage to break some tackles and find a seam to the endzone. He's a baller.

To the bold, in a coach's 24 year at one school, they should not be in that position or have the issue of having to rely soley on the D along with S/T to be competitive. That is too thin of a margin and one would think a seasoned coach would know how to keep themselves out of that predicament, IMO. People are correct when they say that S/T should be complimentary to the success of a football team, but again, it shouldn't be counted on solely.

meh, I think 2 things are possible. The Iowa offense stinks and the wrong call on the field took that game from them.

Either way, we can both agree that Iowa didn't play well enough on offense to win the game...but I also know that hasn't been the recipe for this program for a while. We'll both agree that needs to chance but what I won't budge on is that at this point, this is how Iowa wins games and with the injuries they've sustained they're best chance to continue to do that at least THIS season, is going to be playing phone booth football and trying to limit their mistakes, which Iowa obviously made too many of on Saturday.

Iowa had 4 guys drafted last season and is going to have another crop of them again this year, maybe cool on the ability to evaluate talent. We have had the same offensive issues regardless of OC though and it is the same puppet master that is pulling the strings.

I was sick after the game. Frustrated by how ineffective the offense was and the obvious call that took away Cooper DeJean's punt return. I may have brought this up before, but the heat is on Brian and Kirk both for this one. I've asked myself where is the heat on Barnett? He is the offensive line coach is he not? Whatever scheme Minny was playing made our line look like a JV squad.

It's hard to defend Brian in many cases. But it's also hard to devise a game plan when you cannot pass or run effectively because they cannot pass protect or open lanes.

I know many won't agree with me. I still believe in Kirk. True, he has a system that he has ran for 24 years and has not deviated much from it. Why? Is it because of his coaching philosophy of ball control, field postition and defense?

The last two seasons have been hard to watch in light of the offensive woes. Kirk undoubtedly leans hard the defense and special teams. Unfortunately, it's the only parts that have been working well.

My question is this. We have run the same systems on both sides of the ball forever. Everyone says it's no surprise what Iowa does. It comes down to execution. We just are not executing. And that margin of error is minute when we cannot execute as we do not have the talent pool to overcome our opponents.

So, is it Brian? Is it our system? Is it that our talent has dropped even further than before? I've even heard people draw correlation between the exit of Doyle being a scapegoat to our fall from grace. I don't know anymore. But 2 yards in the second half has me wondering.
