Is Iowa still a lock for the dance?

FWIW - Palm has a 7 seed today still, which seems pretty optimistic, but more so proof of just how far Iowa is from the bubble. I still think they are a 10 seed if they lose on Thursday. I think they win 1 they are an 8 - win 2 they are a 7 - win it all and who knows? I don't think a 6 is even on the table any longer.

If we were to miraculously win BTT, we'd be a 6

So we can drop in seeding to a better path to the sweet 16. A fool proof plan. In all seriousness tho, it doesnt matter what happens. We will be playing Duke 2nd round no matter what.

Duke, UNC, UVa or Kentucky. All are prolly lobbying to play us....

I'm pretty certain that Iowa is going to lose regardless of who we play. My hope is that we lose to Northwestern (NET 88) rather than Illinois (NET 105) . If Illinois beats us, it will be a toss-up between Play In game vs NIT. However, losing to Northwestern we are definitely in the First Round.

If Iowa wins their first BTT game, they will likely get crushed by Michigan (revenge factor) and be a #10 seed.

Off-topic but when was the last time Cook went to the hoop for a dunk? Also, he is 2-14 from the field and 5-11 from the line in the final two games. Also, his minutes are down. Is his knee bothering him?

Cook has "tried" going to the hoop. That old bugaboo of dribbling off either/or/and knee, shin, thigh or foot seems to be tripping him up...again...

Those two wins over Indiana may end up being the deciding factor in getting US in. Or certainly a major factor. If Indiana sweeps us, both team's conference records, and place in the standings, are reversed. The NET's probably would be as well. We would both be 19-12 overall.

And..... Indiana would still have 5 Quad2 losses where we would have 0.

While it defies recent history, I'll bet there were many Hawkeye fans with this exact premise in 2001 when a 5th place Iowa team with a 6 seed and a 7-9 record won the Big 10 tournament? Or maybe in 2002 when a 8th place Iowa team with a 9 seed and a 5-11 record was in the Big 10 tournament finals? Yeah, this team is different; yeah, the conference it different. But a run like that is possible.

I still maintain there is something going on with his knee. He tried to elevate on one play and couldn't get as high as the rim to dunk it, which he was expecting he would. He hasn't been as explosive for the past several games as he was before he banged up his knee.

"Possible", as in "VERY remotely possible".

Neither of those teams was coached by FM. For all his faults, SA got his teams to play respectably in the BTT.

Yea, me too.

It's not D1 related but in juco action I just saw #12 Indian Hills (26-6) get an at large bid after #14 Southeastern (27-5) after SCC went 2-1 against Indian Hills and beat them by 21 in Ottumwa to win a regional title. SCC missed the automatic birth by losing in the district final that would have got them the automatic bid. So rather than playing their way in Hills got to sit at home as SCC got upset and then got the at large bid as a reward despite going 1-2 to the Blackhawks.

Some things simply make no sense, which is why nothing I hear on Selection Sunday would surprise me.

If Indiana wins at least 2 BTT games and Iowa goes one and done, you bet they are in and the Hawks are out.

If (when?) Iowa loses on Thursday BEST CASE is a First Four game. I hope I’m wrong. I hope the Hawks manage to win Thursday and remove all doubt.
Guess 83Hawk can come back and play.

His dissembling doesn’t matter now. Indiana didn’t keep up his end of the bet. Iowa’s in.

Yeah, i lived in Burlington years ago, and am familiar with the Juco program. I was astounded by the at large bid you mentioned. No sense makes sense i guess.

While I like to think Iowa is “in” even with a loss, you never know what the committee will do. I would prefer they win tonight and remove all doubt!

It will be very disappointing if they were to fall to a Firsy Four game. Although it is technically an NCAA tournament game, it doesn’t feel like one.

Agreed. Hopefully Iowa can come out looking strong. They haven't done that since the Michigan game. It'd also be really nice if we could start making 3's again throughout the whole game and not just the last 5 minutes. Our shooting has been just brutal which causes other problems.

I'll give them the benefit of the doubt that Hills had one of the toughest schedules in the nation, but regardless it blows my mind. Anything that has a human element to it can be unpredictable and make little to no sense. I guess that's why I simply don't believe anything is a guarantee when it comes to March Madness.

Seemed to have gotten your wish last night. Now if they can keep the hot hands going.
