I seen that but what's you're point? Just because those guys did it means we should too?

If we want to be taken serious we shoulda schedule Alabama, USC and maybe 1 MAC team maximum. But we dint which just proves Bartle and Ferretz is pu$$ies. When will we man up, well never I guess.

Well, another way to schedule Alabama would be to agree to just one game at their place (same with the other SEC schools).
That might require de-emphasizing some non revenue sports if Iowa made a habit of giving up a lot of home game revenue. That may be why we won't see it happen.

The way I see it, the conference schedule aligned itself to have a successful season. We will have tougher schedules going forward and we may have avg ones. What we don't know year in and out is how well our team will be, and what part injuries will play out (in case you don't actually realize what a major part they play to us having a decent season, to having a poor season). So 2014 sets up well on paper for now.

The OOC schedule is right in line with the rest of the conference (as shown above). The athletic dept has shown many times in the past of scheduling top "name" games for home and aways (Ariz., going back aways, Miami FL, Colo and others). Barta has shown a little less creativity, but again, it is more in line with the conference, and it has allowed for the (now traditional) 7 home games (a proven necessity to maintain a financially and independently successful program)....ie, no state aid, and no real actual aid from most of the posters on this msg board). The challange is even moreso now with a 9 game conf schedule.

The fact is, that all those highly sought after BCS caliber teams are trying to do the same thing to remain financially viable as well. Many programs have their schedules drawn in advance and have their own OOC traditional (ISU) games as well. I (most everyone) love it when we have high profile matchups. They are good for the program. There are just not that many available, especially with ISU on schedule (which i'm in favor of).

The MAC teams are not total cupcakes and at least provide competitive games (and would/do for the other conf schools as well). With the Pitts and Syracuses of the world dotted in we get some added exposure in areas that we recruit (we don't recruit the west nor mid- southeast).

Final thought...and I am not a KF apologist, nor basher...2014 and 2015 will be "hotbed" seasons for our staff. The table will be set for a ride into the sunset for all coaches, and even AD, or it could be the springboard to an extended contract (it will need to be addressed about then). Those seasons will be pivotal, and I would look to, and fully embrace the success, regardless of the "names" of the schools we play. It's still a B1G schedule which is to say, it will still be a very tough road.

I know, too long, and even I didn't reread.

If you are talking to me you should read the thread. I am not against any of this.

If I post that I love you, would you start hating yourself just to go against me?

The real losers in this schedule? Gopher and Illini fans. They will be embarrassed when their stadiums have more black and gold in them than home colors.

No Michigan, Ohio State or Penn State

This is always worrisome to me. Forget about whether it makes our schedule "easier" or not, it means Iowa City loses out on 2 teams that ALWAYS travel well and another that will at least fill the stadium, the hotels and restaurants and help the local economy.

Wisconsin and Nebraska and Wisconsin should bring fans, but that is an easy round-trip vs. an overnight for both sets of fans.

Not many rooms available in iowa city on game weekends, nor lack of lines at the restraunts, regardless of our opponent....Quit trolling bob62 ;)....then again, you should book this years doghouse weekend. :D

When?!

I am shocked at those who don't consider the economic impact to Iowa City. Obvious losers who know NOTHING about delivering newspapers to IC residents at 3AM or tubing down the river with a 1/4-keg of beer in a stock pot!

Iowa City hotels are alway full for football and they are at double the rate and some require that you stay friday and saturday.

Definitely fodder for its own thread elsewhere, they are ripping and crying it up down south over the release and "fairness" of the $EC's upcoming schedules.

I think my issues with the OOC schedule is the simple fact that although its almost unrealistic to think we could get home and home series with Top 10 opponents, I'd still love to see it. It's not that on a comparison to other BCS level programs our OOC is weak, its the fact that I have to watch programs like Minnesota schedule games against USC (regardless of where they play) while we get to see Pittsburgh and MAC schools. Nothing against Pitt or MAC programs, as I understand why they're scheduled, but I'd love to see Iowa in a prime time setting against a big name OOC foe. IMO its more based on name recognition then conference affiliation. I think it would be cool to play Boise State in a home and home or a neutral field just for the simple fact that its someone we haven't seen before and a program with alot of hype behind it.

IIRC, Minny had scheduled USC and Cal when Brewster was around. He wanted to play a top notch opponent to "challenge" the program. But the rest of the OOC games were super soft. I'm assuming getting into fertile recruiting grounds was a motivator as well. Once Kill came in, he pushed to soften the schedule dramatically (and even dropped a BCS school from the schedule for a cupcake).

So you have to decide which route you want to go. A schedule that has one top program and 3 pasties or an all around decent schedule.

I hear ya. LIke I said though, I just wish on occasion we would play some OOC opponents that fans and players would actually get excited about. You can only play MAC schools so many times. Not saying we're "above" scheduling teams like that and that MAC school's don't belong playing BIG programs, but there's just no excitement about scheduling such teams.

I'll admit I was excited to see NIU (regardless of being a MAC school) on the schedule because I thought they'd be a fun team to watch and think this years game will be a good one but I just don't get that feeling year after year against teams like Central or Eastern Michigan.
