I think the "next level" is a relative phrase for each program. I am sure it means different things to different programs. But, I think many people thought Iowa could actually get to the National Title game this year. So, I am just guessing here, but for Iowa that would mean an outright conference title and a shot at the national title game. That is how far this program has come under Ferentz, but I am afraid this may be as far as it goes as long as the current philosophies continue unchanged.

No we havent, but wouldnt that be the "NEXT LEVEL"? With the unbalanced schedule it is extremely hard to win it outright.

The "next level" is hard to get to and stay there for anyone. See Alabama, Texas, USC, Florida.

Very well said. If we change some philosophies, it will go a long way toward taking us from a solid program to a great program.

Absolutely no emotion whatsoever on the sidelines out of KF. Young college kids feed off of emotion out of their head coach. That is why kids love to play for and respond to coaches like Fitzgerald, Mike Stoops and Bielema. We think they look like jerks on the sidelines, but their players love the emotion and enthusiasm and it transfers to the players on the field.

Today, when Iowa called their last time out, KF was standing outside the huddle as KOK directed the players. I understand he trusts KOK, but get in the huddle and pump your kids up.

I am very disappointed in the coaching staff this year, especially the last two games. I am not calling for KF's head and he has produced. But let's be honest, without a bunch of luck, last year would have been entirely different. Luck is not going our way this year. That is the problem with a overly conservative coaching philosophy. You have to rely too much on luck to have a good run each year.

KF needs to make some changes, or teams that have no right to even be in the game with us will continue to beat us. It is sickening!!!

Probably true. We will always be wanna be's, unless we can get more athletic. There is no comparison of speed of iowa and other top programs. We have two guys that can out run a few people. Good fundameental, conservative team, but have more success sneaking up on people rather than as a favorite.
 
I can't believe how dumb this post is and most of the replies to it. You won a BCS game last year and finished in the top 6 in the country. That is the next level. I can't believe this post. KF is the best thing to happen to Iowa Athletics since Hayden Fry, period. Typical greedy Iowa fans not having a clue as to how difficult it actually is to guide a program to consistent Jan. bowl games.

Iowa is one of the top 20 football programs in the country, this post is dumb.

I don't thinks it's the talent. I think it's the coaching mindset. There's a reason why most national titles are won by Saban-like a-holes. There has to be a mean streak somewhere inside you and Kirk doesn't have it. I've seen fans claim they wouldn't trade a national title for Kirk changing his personality . . . I would

So how many "outright" titles should Iowa have? Should we have as many as one of the best programs in the history of college football? Should we have more? What do you want? I just want to know. After this year there will be an outright winner every year with the championship game. I expect to win 1 or 2 in the next 10 years. Anything more would be overachieving IMO.

So .... If this team goes 8-4, what bowl do we actually go to? Gator? Champ Sports? Not that it really matters, I'm just curious.
 
Yeah, KF is too vanilla. So is KOK (yet he changes out of necessity). So is Parker.

Some fans, (you reading Jon?) don't dare criticize the coaching staff.

Who were at fault for pass rushers who were too out of shape to stay in the game when they were needed? Answer - coaches.
Who were at fault for safeties, corners, and linebackers who had their backs to the play and consequently tackled the receiver after catching the ball? - Answer coaches. BTW what happened to Tarp? He couldn't have done any worse than Morris on pass coverage.

I admit, I'm a front runner. That's why I can't take these losses. I will admit when Iowa loses to a "good" team. I'm just wondering - of Iowa's three loses, which team was a good team?

You post was DUMB also. I usually don't that type of language on a message board. Their is always a next level. By your post if you think Iowa is a top 20 program, which I agree with, then their next level would be to be considered one of the top 10. Is that greedy, maybe, but shouldn't you strive for that?? It seems like we don't strive for that because of our conservitiveness.
