Iowa vs Villanova Championship Game Thread

I will say that despite the horrid officiating and Villanova's unconscious 3 point shooting that we still would have won if Marble could have made most of his free throws, and also forced up about 8 less shots.

Both teams tonight were of much higher quality than the officiating crew. That's a shame, but a credit to both teams. The game had a NCAA 2nd round tournament feel. Too bad it was officiated like a late night beer league softball game.

Horrible rebounding call against McCabe, If there was less time on the clock, that would have been very Jim Bain-esque.
I didn't feel that the game was lost, due to the refs. Our poor shooting, during a 20-minute stretch, when we should have been up by 20+ cost us the game.
We knew that Nova wouldn't continue to shoot cold or turn the ball over most of their possessions.
When Iowa had double-digit leads, it never felt safe because Nova couldn't shoot and they were turning the ball over.

50-35 lead with 16+ minutes remaining in the game and we lose?!
It felt like the 1987 UNLV game and the 2006 Northwestern State game, as we couldn't defend the 3.
The only difference is that the last shot for Nova didn't go in and the game extended to OT.

Perfect start to OT with a 3-point lead, and then, immediately, the game is tied again.

Yes, Marble scored 24, but it took 23 FG attempts (2-7 from 3) and 12 FT attempts to do so, and that first miss on our last possession cost us the trophy.
McCabe was solid, but it seems like every referee has it out for him. (Yes, that charge was the correct call, but the rebounding fouls, half of the time, are questionable.)

You just insulted the whole board

You sir have no flipping idea what you're talking about. Stanzi was talking about non-Iowa fans commenting about Iowa and its games, how did I insult the whole board? 99% of this board are actually Iowa*fans.

I thought the officiating was poor, and Nova got a call on every trip in the 2nd half that didnt result in a 3pointer. Some were fouls, but they got a lot of them. I was a little disappointed that we never tried to establish the post when the lead got down to 5 in the 2nd half.

Villanova's unconscious 3 point shooting.

Iowa actually hit about 45% of their threes and Nova hit about 36% of theirs. But they took 38 from behind the line. If teams have to attempt to more three pointers than two point shots against Iowa, I think that will be to the Hawkeyes advantage in the long run.

Lol, sorry. I went too far with weirdo.

I agree with him that the refs didn't cost Iowa the game, Iowa did. But that was hard to watch and listen to as well. Officiating was terrible, just terrible. Pregame the announcers and in studio analysts said Nova would win all because they beat Kansas. Those announcers were so far up Jay Wright'@$$ it wasn't funny.

Lets not forget 3 of our go to players fouled out. Marble was pretty much our last option at the end...

The second half was when Villanova made all but a couple of their 3's. I would bet they shot at least 60% in the second half.

I meant to say disagree, my bad.

Saying ‘oh, my bad’, in the place of an apology is almost as bad as ‘don’t take this the wrong way’. If you did something unintentional or wrong and you honestly feel bad about it, for God’s sake … APOLOGIZE … or don’t say anything at all!

Oh look who is splitting hairs now? I don't have to apologize to you anyway.
