iowa vs oregon

it would be interesting a lot of ppl though gtech would put up a bunch against us and we shut em down

If we played to our potential against them, I'd say between 21-28. If we didn't, then it'd be 42+. But, their D is not that good, so we'd be scoring too.

Their offense is built around big plays and our defense is built to keep everything in front of us. We don't give up big plays. I'd say somewhere around 17-28. As long as we played well. I'd really like to play them in the Rose Bowl this year.

I'd be a little nervous if we played them in the middle of the season, especially with how depleted we are at LB right now. Should we meet them in the Rose bowl with everybody back healthy and they have a few weeks to prepare, I'd feel pretty good.

both of you are stupid.. but thanks for the answers

You asked a stupid question, so you deserve a stupid answer. Perhaps next time, rather than asking " how many points does oregon score on Iowa's defense", you'll frame it with some boundaries. For example, when are we playing? Where are we playing? Which Iowa team shows up for that game?

Statistically? Their offense is lights out. Average 54 points per game. And that's including their 'worst' offensive performance where they only put up 43 points. On the flip side, while our own defense has been strong, we have shown moments where we're completely vulnerable. See Arizona, Michigan, Wisconsin...

On a good day, I think we could hold them in the 28 point range. But likely, we'd be giving up 30+.

much of it depends on our offense and how long we could control the ball. Even if we could contain them well early we would simply be worn down by them if our D is on the field a lot. I would guess our O does fine in time of possession, but we just don't force enough punts. Neutral field, Oregon 31-24. They are just really good.

There is precious little defense played in the Pac-10, and Oregon didn't really risk much in OOC either. Portland State? New Mexico? Give me a break. Their stats are bloated, just like last year. Their defense (particularly their pass defense) is pretty suspect. They're not really any different than last year. Thomas is a better passer than Masoli, but he's not put up the numbers on the ground that Masoli did.

Wow...there really are a lot of Homers out there.

The Hawks are not built to stop a team like this. This team is fast, they make very few mistakes, and they play at a tempo that would have the Hawk defense gassed very quickly. This team is very, very good.

Couple of weeks ago, I would have agreed with the posters here...but I have now watched 3 of their games and they do things that just baffle defenses. Linebacker play is key to stopping Oregon's offense and as of right now, the Hawks do not have the experience or talent to stop this team.

Oregon would score over 40 points. I know this is not popular, but is based on actually watching both teams play multiple times.

Oregon's offense is a well-oiled machine that requires two things to work:

1) Extraordinary precision and timing
2) The ability to wear out the opponent

Oregon looks scary on TV, but they haven't played a team that would smack them in the mouth defensively. I think an elite defense would hold them under 28. A ball-control offense would help keep their offense off the field and disrupt their timing.

They're playing the same style as last year, and Ohio State tagged them in the bowl game because they play defense, and because that kind of offense tends not to be as sharp after a long layoff.

Give Norm Parker time to prepare for that offense and I'd like our chances.

I put their scoring average at about 30 if they played in the big ten. So hopefully on a good day for Iowas defense Id say you could see a lot of things. Hawks could play like this weekend and could hold them to 17-24 points. This would be a good match up for us. The media would say that they would kill us. As other posters have said we are set up to stop big plays. So they would have to change what they do against us. It would be like the Ga Tech game. If it was a bowl game with time to prepare I think the Hawks could win. Say maybe 17-28.

IMO Oregon wins the National Championship. If they get beat it will be a fluke. There Offense is ridiculiously good.

Someone post a while back that they would love to see a Boise State Oregon Matchup. That would be a laugher of all laughers...

Why? Boise St has shut down Oregon more than anybody else in recent years.
