That Iowa State game was a very weird one for sure. Most folks would disagree that Iowa State is a better team. Did we forget about ISU almost losing to UNI?

Again I don’t really care and I’m not trying to go down this road too much I just brought it up as a reference point. I don’t want to get hammered by posters on the ISU thing it was a completely different day and I understand each game is unique. Iowa can beat Michigan I’m just surprised at the confidence level here.

42 votes for an Iowa win, 21 for Bitchigan.

I am looking at the trends that the hawks have been playing clean, efficient games. Very few penalties and very few turnovers. Very good special teams kicking the ball but returns could be better. I think we can run the ball decently even if they throw an 8th guy in the box.

Has BF been holding back certain plays or formations? The coaches have been playing it pretty straight up so far.

For instance, not every Iowa QB is asked to do a naked bootleg to the left side of the formation but some are very good throwing the ball moving left. Maybe that is a play that can surprise Mich.

I havent watched much of Mich but a team rated so high early is under performing. Really good Mich teams should overwhelm Army and MTSU but they didnt and they absolutely got stomped by Wisky (and a few posters have said maybe they were sleep walking in that game which I think is false).

The main worry I have is if the hawks cant pressure Mich QBs and we still have backup Dbacks on their receivers. I think we can hold their run game down but maybe give up a few good runs.
I think Brian has been holding back plays, I looking for a couple of plays for Goodson on a sweep and a couple of Whatley type passes across the middle to bust him. I wouldn't be surprised to see Brian come out throwing.

MSU's defense backs are just like Wisconsin's o-line. Great in college because they perfect borderline or outright illegal technique and then they know that the refs will only call them on it at most 3x per game. Then, their guys get into the League and end up not being all world like their college hype forecast.
It's taken three seasons to wipe the Spartan off of Trae Waynes to not get a holding penalty on every other play.

I see this game playing out a lot like the Purdue game last year.

Michigan takes the lead early through their passing game targeting a CB with limited experience. Iowa fights all game to stay in the game and finally takes the lead late. But Michigan drives down the field to take the lead back with 10 seconds left. Iowa loses with 3 TOs in their pocket.
Yeah. I could see that.

is that 3 turnovers or 3 time outs?

Michigan scores late to win 24-13. Their entire season is on the line -- ours is not. If Iowa's secondary was completely healthy, and with McCaffery out, I'd pick the Hawks. But alas...

A little surprised by all the confidence here.

Here’s a question for the board. Who is a better football team Michigan or Iowa State?
I’m surprised as well.

Michigan easily has better offensive skill positions.

QBs probably a wash.
Purdy seems to have more FB IQ.

OL, LB and DB probably a wash.

DT to ISU and DE to Michigan but Iowa’s OT offsets that strength and Iowa’s C went toe to toe vs Lima.

ISU is a rivalry.
But Michigan skipped the sure win for Homecoming vs. Rutgers and circled Iowa.

Michigan fans may not be jacked for this game but I bet Harbaugh’s office is

Iowa has better running backs. Iowa’s top four are better than any on Michigan’s roster. Are Michgan’s WRs better as a unit? Sure, but not by a huge margin, and the guy throwing to them isn’t very good, and the OL protecting him isn’t great, either.

It depends on how well Stanley plays, and if we can get pressure on Patterson. Michigan will pressure Stanley, stop the run and play man coverage, as their defensive backs are all 4 star players, and superior athletes to what we have at receiver. They have the 3rd ranked pass defense in the nation. This is a game where we will certainly miss Hock and Fant. Will our receivers be able to get open? Will Stanley be able to handle the pressure and be accurate with the ball? Will our linebackers and dbs be able to keep up with the receivers they have?
Flip it around can they stop our power run game and commit secondary players to help stop the run. They havent been good against the run. We have been good against the run, so-so against the pass. I would argue that outside of the two big plays by Iowa State the secondary has been OK. Plus we get some guys back this week.

Tho not a division game, this game is huge nationally for exposure!

Michigan hasn"t stopped the run thus far. And playing Army, Wisconsin, and Rutgers will do wonders for pass defense stats.

It comes down to turnovers. The farther into the season we get without turnovers, and the farther we go without an INT, the less we assume recruiting stars* dictate win-loss record.

A little surprised by all the confidence here.

Who cares? I don't get your obsession with ISU, their loss to Baylor, etc. They have lost 2 games by a total of 4 points. Michigan has lost one. By 21 points. And it was not even close.

isu has lost 2 games by i think a total of 3 points. could have won both games obviously. and in the state of iowa everyone should know you don't read too much into iowa state vs uni. uni is their northwestern, or their isu, however you want to look at it. that game where everything and anything happens, and you just end up holding on most of hte time for dear life.

My obsession with Iowa State? That’s hilarious. I was literally spamming threads about Iowa football after we played ISU because almost every thread on this board was Iowa State related for about a week and a half (granted we were on a bye week).

The only reason I brought them up on this particular thread is because they happen to be the only respectable team we’ve played this year.

I like Iowa’s team this year and I’m pumped for this game, a game we can win. I guess the fans confidence level shouldn’t bother me other than that if we did happen to lose with this type of confidence level I could see the meltdown being pretty epic.

Winnable game, but I expect Michigan is getting it's act together just in time for the Hawks, naturally.. 52-0 beat down over Rutgers (Yeah I know Rutgers stinks, but still) makes me think they are improving.

Gut feeling says Iowa drops this one. I'd like to be wrong but this just seems like the type of game Iowa typically does not win and finds a way to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory (see PSU and Wisconsin games last year). Critical conference game between two ranked opponents. I'm not sure what Iowa's record is in these types of games under KF but doesn't seem like it could be good. Not in the past decade or so, anyway.

28-24 Michigan.

Note: IMO, if Iowa does win this one, then it'll be a special season. Like a Rose Bowl type year. If not, 8-4 territory as per usual.
